Surfer's slaying reveals gang fears

It's time to hold people like this accountable. A murder is murder, gang or no gang. Young men beating another young man to death cannot be explained or excused in any way, shape or form. Maximum charges, maximum penalties are the only way to curb this trend which is clearly growing. "Gangsta chic" becomes gangs period. There is nothing chic about men murdering other men, no matter how you slice it. We need to stop glamourizing gangs, violence, mobsters, death, drugs, and crime. Wealthy young men who have every privilege known to man, every possible opportunity and they still choose to kill? That comes from no consequences, spoiled young men living the "gangsta chic". Throw the book at them...

it's pick like these who have ruined the sport of surfing. this territorial,"stay off MY wave bit". now murder of a local citizen who did nothing but go surfing. i remember the winter of 1971 when i dropped out of school and moved to leucadia,ca only to nearly be chased on the shoulder of the highway by my then surfing heroes mike purpus and dru harrison. i left california never to return and quit surfing for awhile. my point, this beach territorial mentality is nothing new in california, it just past the point of slashed tires and beatings. i say give these punks the death penalty.

you want to take control of this..do what the surfers on the east coast do...if there's any disrespect in the water, the good outweigh the bad and circle the punk with their boards..they have a talk..most of them listen. The one's who don't listen, get dissed and dropped in on by everyone else.

mking & charlie Melton are correct. Ganglike behavior has escalated due to a breakdown of morals in our culture and due to our extremely corrupt/evil leaders who are destroying America. Our leaders modeling violence,war & hatred creates young men/women doing the same. Look at those girls beating up girls on camera! Very sick/same problem.
Some Indian tribes used a better method to control their warriors. They surround the one whose actions offend and speak words of truth and love to him until he breaks down, apologizes and makes amends. He is held accountable by all his peers. He has no choice but to change. He is then loved back into the circle of life, instead of rejected forever. It's too late for that with young men like these who have zero consequences and zero souls and have become so entitled & depraved as to think they have the right to behave this way and "it's cool, dude."
Things are escalating and intervention with strong consequences must occur across the board until accountability becomes the norm and everyone accepts personal responsibility for seeing it happen. I've saved the lives of many alcoholic/addicted men living on the streets & given up on by society by doing just that. It can be done, but we must once again care about each other, instead of glorify and rush to violence. I will pray for these men, but hold them firmly accountable please.

My best friend is a 6'5" corn-fed ex-marine, we go to Windansea all the time and strangely enough none of them punks has ever said a word to him, despite walking right through their little gauntlet they post up right at the top of the pumping station steps. We've been going there for years and watch these retards mess with folks all the time. Just once I'd like to see one of them get drunk enough to mouth off to my buddy. It will be quite entertaining watching that idiot swallow a mouthful of his own teeth while his friends piss themselves and run away.
