This story brought tears to my eyes. Rosa and Lucy are both inspirational women for their dedication, perseverence and love.

Best luck to Lucy for achieving this pinnacle of success in becoming a college graduate.

Happy Mother's Day to Rosa and all mothers.

A beautiful, heartwarming story about some really admirable people. Thank you for telling us abut these women. It's nice to be reminded that most people are good and hardworking, committed to our families and strong when we're tested. We're living in rather difficult, discouraging times, and stories like this are a bit of an antidote to the bad-news reporting we are bombarded with.

I had tears in my eyes by the time I finished reading this story. This is what motherhood is all about.
Congratulations to them both and a very, very happy and blessed Mother's Day to Mrs. Trevino, to my mom and to all the other moms out there. Thanks for everything you do for us and all the sacrifices you make.
We don't say it often enough but you are our blessing!!

Just what we need this Mother's Day! Congratulations to Lucy and her mother on their accomplishment.

And to all the moms out there hope you had a wonderful day.

One comment though to the Tribune, your headline writer didn't do this story justice, almost passed it by, glad my curiosity got the better of me.

There is nothing more than I can say than "She(You) is surely one to be much more than"Just"proud of. Her(You) & her mother's strength & dedication are somewhat of somekind of miracle. I wish her(You) only the very best in all her future achieves. "YOU GO GIRL!" & never let ANYTHING stand in your way! Not only thank yourself daily, But always be sure your mother is included in that "Huge Daily Thank You!"(And I hope millions see your article & inspire so many with obstacles as your's.) Your pure proof that it can be achieved when all others would have gave up(Or never even tried from the start!)

Dear Lucy

We read your acticle, it was very interesting. I know how you feel because in my school there are people that make fun of disabled kids.I hope they discover a cure for your disease. What ever you do don't give up. You are an inspiration to hispanics here in cicero how you pasted that big test with a 400% passed level keep up doing all the good work.

Thanks for inspiring us with your story.

p.s.HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS IN THE WORLD:)

Sincerly,Adanel,Hector,and Manuel :)

as one of the UIC College of Engineering commencement planners I can understand all the the heartfelt responses. Being present for this event was incredibly moving. For amoment time stood still while the entire pavilion gave her and her mother a 2 minute standing ovation. We all felt priveleged to witness this momentus occasion for Lucy and her mother. I am sure Lucy will not forget this day as we will not soon forget that we witnessed what love is all about.

dear dear maryl, what a GORGEOUS way to put it. you just gave me goosebumps, as you described "time standing still, " and how you "will not soon forget that we witnessed what love was all about...."

pure truth in poetry, is what you wrote. thank you for putting an exclamation on what i too witnessed, and felt pounding away in my heart.....

absolutely beautiful. thank you.....

As a student at UIC (now alumni) I got to see this duo on campus once in a while. When I would see them, I would be amazed by the dedication of this mother and daughter. I myself am a mother and it is true, a mothers love has no limits. Congrats to Lucy and her mom, eventhough we never knew each other. I'm a witness to the dedication of the duo and may GOD bless you and your family in whatever you do.

The unconditional love of a mother. It reminds me of the unconditional love that God has for His children.
