HOW ABOUT TELLING THE REAL STORY?
HOW VICTIMS HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF THIER RIGHTS TO FAIR COMPENSATION FOR THEIR DEATHS/INJURIES. AND HOW VICTIMS ANDFAMILIES WERE EXTORTED INTO SIGNING THERE RIGHTS AWAY BY THE ALL OR NO REPRESENTATION CLAUSE??

I agree with "Imavictimtoo". It is unconscionable that the press has ignored publishing the details of the travesty that is the Merck Vioxx Settlement. Great deal for the lawyers and Merck, and a complete trampling of the rights of the Vioxx victims.

I believe the current Vioxx Settlement is a travesty to justice, and has corrupted the legal system upon which we victims depend. It has destroyed the trust between attorneys and their clients and, besides guaranteeing a huge payday for the lawyers involved and limiting Merck's exposure, has done very little to compensate a huge number of victim/plaintiffs who have suffered devastating permanent injury and/or death.

Many Vioxx Plaintiffs have been gathering online to discuss the problems/merits of the Settlement, and I objections ABOUND!

Many plaintiffs have been given erroneous or misleading/confusing info from their attorneys, and understand precious little regarding the specifics of how the settlement actually works. In many regards, I fear a great number of plaintiffs have seemingly been led down the garden path as sheep to slaughter, primarily for the financial gain of their attorneys.

My mom died in Jan,2001 from a heart attack after taking Vioxx for years. It's been more than a month since Merck has " walked away from the case and I still can't get a straight answer on what the amount will be or when . It's all over the news that heart attack victims are to receive 40% of the settlement amount by the end of August,2008. It is now 8-9-08 and I know that they have started to pay the lower amounts starting on 8-6-08. I am one of ten family members that are involved in this case and have 2 members that have deadly cases of cancer, with a few months at best left to live. If I could at least find out how much we have coming, then I could borrow some money to have a big party for my brother & brother-in-law one last time. If anyone has any information that would help I would be very grateful. We are not a wealthy or even well-to-do family, as a matter of fact we're all having trouble paying every day bills.
I would much rather have my Mom still with us for I miss her terribly, but seeing how that's not possible I want to give my relatives a send off that everyone will always remember. They have never had the ability to do something exotic for their family and it would mean the world to me to be able to do this for them & their families.
If anyone reading this has any information or ideas please let me know, for time is running out.
I will reward anyone who can and will help my family out when I receive my settlement. I will of course put it in writing and protect you, please rest assured that if you have the ability to financially fund me for what should be a very short period of time, I will pay you back what ever you want. I can't go to the bank myself , and I know this sounds a bit much, I myself have had 6 yes six stomach surgeries, a major stomach bleed which I just was saved by my wife within literally 2 minutes for a blood transfusion ( I was totally out of blood when I reached the ER), Then I had a brain seizure in 2002 and went into a coma for almost 24 hrs, with the grace of God I managed to survive this ordeal. I have been scoped down my throat many times looking for the cause, with no answers. The moral to all this is I lost my home and had to file bankruptcy. I'm not looking for sympathy or charity, I'm just hoping that someone will give me a hand so I can get back on my feet. I've always worked hard my whole life and I haven't been able to find a job since last Easter in March,08. I've always been in sales and because of my health issues ( my stomach is going to require more surgery in the not so distant future). My Dr. wants me to work out of sales and I live in a resort area, which makes finding a job at 52 years old next month, no college, very difficult to do. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to read my tale of woe and I wish everybody good health, wealth and happiness.

Unfortunately, many do not understand how the legal system works. It's not a matter of black and white....it's a billion shades of gray and each one is open to interpretation. The attorneys are trying to work out the best settlement possible for the victims under the present legal atmosphere and keep themselves solvent at the same time.

The Merck lawsuit score at present is 12-5 (won 12, lost 5 and they are probably in the process of appeals on those). Merck has BILLIONS of dollars to defend the lawsuits....do you have that kind of money to keep a lawsuit going thru all the appeals? Especially when the odds are 12 to 5 in their favor.

They also have time on their side.
Even the "master" Vioxx attorney,Lanier from Houston, has had several of his "wins" overturned upon appeal. The bottom line is.....the legal odds are on Merck's side.

Most law firms don't have the resources in reserve to go up against a mountain like Merck without putting all their assets into hock up to their eyeballs...they've already had to fork out filing fees, expenses to gather medical records, etc., and it's come out of their own pockets thus far. Lawyers are in business to make money just like any other business...and every business has it's limit on operating capital.

after having a stint implanted in 4/03,caused by
vioxx he had been taking for 3 yrs. i only wish he
was here to get whatever money he had coming. but he told me before he died to continue the lawsuit
for his children. i don't have the time or money to continue this lawsuit.my father would have agreed to getting this over with,so therefore i think i have done what my father would have wanted. whatever the amount of the money, ITS A GIFT FROM MY DAD
