Sometimes drastic change require drastic measures. Until someone comes in with working billing/repair/provision type systems, adequate oversight capabilities, and infrastracture that was stripped away first by GTE and then by Verizon over many years, along tecnical expertise unique to the telephone industry, you can kiss this next effort good bye too. Having a Walter and an Eric with very little experience in the field is like hiring a baseball coach to coach football. I don't think so:-(!!!

Remember when the deal with Carlyle was announced there was one party who tried to tell everyone about the potential problems. In fact we took out full page ads, and went to every hearing... Well the things we feared came true... We didn't do it to hurt anyone, we just knew from experience in dealing with the east coast egos..

that said, getting the company back from Carlyle and into local hands is important. All of your comments are important. Let's just hope Walter and Eric can turn this around. This company is critical to the state, the network it operates and the jobs it provides, let's support it and make it work this time. Yep Walter will make some of his cash back, but he is doing it the right way, after it's cleaned up... Not like S. Cooper... who get's all his cash day one...

Aloha

Yes, maybe that will unfortunately happen, but it shouldn't be. It weakens our economy, creates hardships for employees and their families, and weakens our national integrity.

This company can turn things around, but need to rely on experienced employees who know the systems and put the mission first, not personal gain.

I have listened to many ex Verion and current HawaiianTelCom employees and value their comments and ideas. It's too bad CEO's or politicians, including Union representatives don't listen to those that actually do the work.

After all, its the foundation of any structure that holds that business in place.

I could write a thesis on how and why Verizon-Hawaiian Tel failed to achieve greatness here in Hawaii, but that's for another time and place.

its too late the damage is done. nothing or no one can turn around this loser of a company. the fall of arrogant employees, outdated technology and the worst customer service began a long time ago. mega lawsuits from the puc, more $$$ lost is inevitable. all of the media exposure makes it appear that better times are ahead. think again...

Hey John...with the new regime don't you sense same old same old? A banker and CFO of a school running a telephone company?? Add to that broken systems, cable held together with duct tape, work lacking the cream of expertise it once had, old technology minus wireless that Verizon smartly kept out of the sale, lost customers that are unlikely to return which btw includes many former employees now cable or strictly wireless, the faithful POT generation that are dwindling due to aging, etc..sorry for me paints a dim outlook in my crystal ball. Had this latest announcement shown serious out of the box change, my posture would be more optimistic.

Carlyle is a very poorly led company with sleazy ties to Bush and the contractors in iraq. Best to boycott Hawaiian Tel.

I guess now is now a good time to get a job at HT?

I'm being courted and wonder if a move to HT would be a mistake....

Any comments from former or current employees would be appreciated.

Mahalo!
