The IRS will even tell you it is legal to use these numbers for bank accts, credit apps, loans, etc. The catch is you can only do this once in your life so once you get one then you need to make sure not to mess it up. I had a credit score of 565 (pretty crappy right?). Adding tradelines to that wouldnt have helped because I had several collections. Starting with my new CPN enabled me to buy my house.
