I went to a Monroe Muffler for an estimate and they told me my ENTIRE exhaust was shot and the estimate was for 2000 bucks. A regular garage fixed the problem for 300 bucks and told me most of the exhaust was fine. Like I'll ever go to Monroe again, right.

I went to Monroe to have them fix my exhaust system. When I went to pick my car up, it sounded worse than when I brought it in. So I went right back and told them the problem wasn't fixed. I asked them if they tested to see if it was fixed. He told me that "they don't take customer's cars out for a joy ride". So how do they know that they have fixed the problem???? Anyway, he got in the car and drove it aorund the block [I was in the passenger's seat] and then tried to tell me that it was my wheel bearings making that noise, and he could give me an estimate on fixing it. WRONG!!!! My wheels would have fallen off long ago!! So I have spent over $700 for nothing. I do not reccommend this company at all!!!

Went to Monroe muffler for an oil change with one of there coupons that showed Valvoline all over it. I checked my oil when I got home like always and it was black. I drained it out and changed it my self. Would not go there for anything. They also said I needed 4 new struts and half shafts to a tune of $2,349.71. I had 1 bad strut and 2 torn boots.

I went to a Monroe nearby to have my brakes looked at. They fixed them to a tune of about $300 replacing brake pads and machining rotors. After this(that same day) the brakes started making all kinds of weird noises so I brought it back and they said they had made some mistakes and they would fix it. Now about a month later, my brakes are pulsating very badly. I fefuse to bring my car back to them because of their shoddy workmanship. I would not advise anyone to go to this garage to have their brakes done!!!

I have to say that I have had excellent service with Monro guys in Greater Rochester area. They do what is asked and if there are additional problems - they tell me. I go get a second opinion and usually return to Monro to get the work done. My son (a teenager) had a problem with his muffler. He went to get it looked at and they fixed it for $25. It was a minor problem. They could have told him it needed major repair and charged much more. I guess the important thing is to know who you are dealing with and get a second opinion if in doubt.

I had new tires placed on my car as well as an alignment in March 2007 by Monroe. In August and December 2007, I was told my shocks/struts were gone. I had my mechanic take a look and he said my shocks/struts were fine, however, my tires were misaligned and all four tires need to be replaced again!!! I am still trying to get in contact with the general manager to get reimbursement for Monroe's crappy work. I would highly advise never to go to Monroe for automotive repairs.

Hey Rachel now tell everyone how Monro took care of your issue with some excellent customer service and honesty. I believe they handled you situation quite profesionally wouldn't you say?

I think Lynn has it right "know who you are dealing with and get a second opinion if in doubt." Monroe shops employ regular people like any other shop and are no less exempt from human nature, good or bad. That said, I'm happy with current management at the shop here in Herkimer and the parking lot there suggests this is not a lone opinion. They get you in and out as quick as they can and in my opinion do their best to explain your options (ie. Rachel, that alignment your getting with your new tires won't amount to a hill of beans if your riding around on worn or bad struts. So not only will you be damaging your brand new tires, but you'll have to pay for another alignment (and make yet another trip to the shop) when it becomes painfully obvious that your ride has turned into a four-wheeled trampoline. Your call.)(And why didn't she use "her mechanic" in the first place?) Nothings' cheap anymore, so by all means, shop around, compare. And if your lucky enough to find one of the good one's (Monroe or otherwise) take your lumps, if you can afford it, in one shot. It'll cost less in your time and money and safety/comfort in the long run. Kudos to Jayme and his crew.

went to midas for an estimate for brake pads. Said I needed all new rotors, pads, and a bunch of other stuff for over $600. Went to Monro, who had done work on my car before, and They gound the rotors and put pads on for less than $00.00. Drives great now. I'm a Monro fan . They were good and honest.

I'm a store manager's wife. I know my husband gives great service at a fair price. Although there are some stores (like any other type of service) that employee not so honest people, the majority of Monro's are honest hard working people. The problem with complaints are that a big amount of them are wrong. There are people who will say and do anything for free repairs. They will try to get all their repairs done for the cost of one."It wasn't doing that before you worked on it"

I took my 2003 Toyota Camry to the Herkimer, NY Monroe Muffler for oil change and loud muffler. I was told from the manager that the catalytic converter was bad and it would cost $651.00 plus 44.00 labor. I had the job done only to find out after calling Cole Muffler in Herkimer that it should have been covered under warranty per Federal law 8 yr. 80,000 miles. After calling Monroe back I was told that they made a mistake, didn't know my car was covered. They tried to rip me off bottom line. Now Toyota has to remove the part and install another one for me to get a refund. Cole Muffler from now on!!!

Another bad example of poor customer service. After an oil change, about 6,500 miles later, I began noticing an odor in my 2002 Camary. I took the car to my Toyota dealer who discovered that the oil cap was not on the car. I contacted Monroe Customer Relations, spoke with "I am the head of Customer Relations Terry Hessman" who said we deny all responsibility, we fuse to reimburse you any of the $500 it cost to get it repaired, I refuse to provide you a name of any one above me because I make the decisions, this conversation is over with. Nice...will I go to Monroe or it affiliates again...definitely never...and I would discourage anyone from visiting them.

Ok so it was 6,500 miles after the oil change that you noticed this? You never checked your oil or added oil 1 time in this very long oil change interval? Vehicle owners have to have some maintenance responiblty some time.GET A CLUE or stop driving. Claudette Gomez wrote: Another bad example of poor customer service. Do not go in for free alignment check coupon, managers are trained to loosen struts during check to see if they could be bent. That alone will knock your alignment out. This was an idea to increase strut sales and make the sale today to bring up store profits.
