We were just told on Monday, that our JCI plant 2 is being sold to Plastech on April 1. We are from Whitby, On, Canada. We manufacture doors at present. Would like to know more about Plastech if anyone knows any information.

Thanks for the good news about Plastech. We still are in the dark about pay etc. Waiting for the meeting with the CAW. |

York Mills, Canada, do you presently work for Plastch? I know there is a plant in Leamington, ON.

You must be part of the Plastech Propaganda machine... Don't expect any 401k match, your health insurance costs will rise, and they were on the verge of bankruptcy just recently (they defaulted on a major loan). I heard they budget for raises, but you should never assume that you will get one. We heard from one plastech plant that said that they had to threaten to unionize because Plastech wasn't paying the benefits coverage. Did you get supplied parts by any Plastech plants? You then know how horrible the quality and response time is. Plan on feeling dirty. |
|
We heard hear in Canada, that it will be unionized. The one in Leamington is...that is about all we know. |

Anybody know anymore about Plastech in Canada?

Plastech is a dirty company from the top on down. Just look at the turnover the last year in management - that ought to tell you something. They cheat their employees, suppliers and their own customers which is why they won't be around too much longer. Also, they are on their last leg with financing. |

Is there anyone out there currently working on the manufacturing line at Plastech? Can you tell me anything about the hourly wage?
Concerned in Holland,Mi. |

All we here are rumors management haven't told us much except that somethings are better JCI and some better with Plastech. Unfortunately we've yet to here anything better with Plastech

Well plastech cut the pay in holland $13.90 from 16.70. HILO drivers get a dollar more and mold changers get 2 dollars more plus the of shift pay went from .88 to .35 |

2 Good luck you guys are overpaid. |

We earned our 16.70. If I came to you one day and said "hey ya know what, I know you have been here a long time, but I think I am going to take $2.80 an hour away from you, and I also think you can pay more for your insurance, but its not going to cover as much. OH and by the way you are still going to do the same job you have been doing for the last 10, 20 or 30 years. How would you feel? Thats almost 500 dollars a month. Thats a persons rent. I relize it could be worse. Its still not an easy pill to swallow.

JCI sold its Lexington, TN plant recently. While their employees were allowed to stay, pay was cut.

1 I really don't think we were paid too much. There are at least two major automotive parts suppliers in Holland that currently pay the people out on the floor more than the wage we are about to loose. I don't think I needed more compensation. I believe I was treated fairly. The pay was a reward that is meant to compensate for the wear and tear on your body. I have been fortunate and have not been seriously injured so far-too many people I work with have had to have carpal tunnel surgery, shoulder, back, elbow, or knee surgery. So many people end up trading their health for the job-and the pay helped even that out. I enjoy my work and intend to stick it out and see what happens. |

Your last name must be Brown to make such claims.
Plastech is the most unprofessional company I have had the displeasure of working for. Here is some reality for you: ... Over $40K per day in scrap at one plant ... Human resources department that does not understand the benefits and will not work for you. ... Will promise the customer everything and deliver nothing of value ... Get the opportunity to be thrown under the bus by every corporate weasel trying to justify their own existence. ... You have to beg to get spare parts to keep the line running Canuck in the D, you are full of shit! Gramps

Yeah, it was kind of funny when they were giving an overview of their company a few weeks back. At one point the HR lady said they are striving to be a company you will be proud to work for. All I kept thinking was they've had like 16 years to do that already. What's driving them to be any different now?
It's got to be the most unorganized company ever. Nothing is consistent from plant to plant. |

The thing I am most distressed with as far as our new set of benefits...my spouse is no longer allowed to be on my insurance...it is available at my spouse's place of employment-at a great cost-for not much coverage-so I may not carry my spouse on my insurance-this is supposedly the way of the future for all companies in Michigan-at least that was what I was told...we both will need to buy our own policy...so, not only will I loose pay-my spouse will loose pay by having to pay for a separate insurance policy-not only will I loose 20% of my current wages-now my spouse will a take 12% loss of current wages. This is an enormous loss for the two of us! We just bought a home for the first time ever 2 months ago, so this turn of events is very distressing!

And isn't it so helpful when every person tells you-"At least you still have a job"? I used to just agree with them-now I say-"At least it hasn't happened to you yet!" It would seem to me that other companies in this area will realize a good thing when they see it-maybe try to cut their employees wages and send them back to 1997 or 1999 since JCI/Plastech can do it. |
