My goal right now is to avoid M.I.C.
I try for made in america but it isn't always possible. Shoes for example- I will buy from Italy or Brazil, the quality of the leather and workmanship is solid.

I avoid alot of this by buying well-made anitques/used items and then refinishing/refurbing. You can go to an auction and buy some beautiful REAL Silver flatware - it will last you a lifetime and become an heirloom for future generations. Lots of alternatives if you take the time to think before you shop.
The need for instant gratification that most Americans cannot shake prevents many from doing this and now we have a glut of shiny junk in the stores and the landfills.

However, my old Toyotas are still not in a junkyard.

thats a very bold statement coming from an uneducated middle american. Im glad to see that your still living in the 1940s but i thought middle america was only 50 years behind the rest of the US. Im also glad that you can still support a company that is on the verge of bankruptcy and the only companies that are still profiting from auto sales are the ones that you feel are inferior. Toyota is the greatest contributor to environmental protection of any other auto manufacturer. I know that doesn't have any relevance to you in the middle of no where but like i said you're a few decades behind...Toyota also produces the highest quality vehicles, unlike fords that spend more time in the shop than on the road.

Besides the fact that line is to be dropped- I believe it is just a Tahoe underneath and most owners seem to really like them.

My Hyundai Sonata was built in Tennessee. It's a solid car and gets great gas mileage. Too bad the Detroit three couldn't build anything camparable for the same price, but at least my car was built in the USA.

I would like to add some food for thought. I am currently serving in Iraq. A couple of years ago two new vehicles were rushed to the battle field to protect us from ied's. These trucks were designed and delivered to the battlefield in a little over a year. They are produced by Force Protection, and International using mostly mass produced parts bolted to an armored body.(Allison Transmissions, Cummings Engines, Etc.)You may have heard of these in GM and Dodge pickups. There are thousands of other standard parts thrown in to build these mine resistant vehicles. This can be done because we still have a auto manufacturing industry in our country. Now I've owned some very good American made vehicles. I've also owned some not so good American vehicles that I wouldn't buy again. But I know we can never put ourselves in the position of having to ask a Korean or Chinese company to produce a truck to protect the next generation of American servicemen.

I looked at them years ago when I bought my pile of garbage (That is code for Chevy Avalanche). For the large price tag, I did not much benefit. The interior is typical lame GM style. The handling is ok but nothing worth bragging about. I just could not justify it.

I do not know of any serious problems with them other than they are American truck crap.... Bring back that GRANNY TRANNY!

I doubt anyone could or would argue against that point. The same could be said for communications systems. I'm afraid it is too late for the financial networks.

Thank-you for your service!!

I have noticed that perhaps a reson why people don't want to buy Japanese cars is related to the pearl harbor situation. I wonder, didn't the US bombed two cities in Japan? Didn't the nuclear bomb kill enough people? Well then why so much resent then? I am prety sure you got your revenge. I the US only a few people died. Military people. In Japan many hundred thousand people , mostly civilians, died as an act of retaliation. But still people managed to pland the seed of hate and as a result we have people today that still want revenge and won't buy a "ricer" because of this hate. We have seen here how many Americans are buying Japanese and German cars because of its quality. Those war actions happened a long time ago. You all need to move on. The recesion isn't going to be fixed by buying American cars alone. There are many steps needed for this. I suspect many of this "patriots" that hate Japan also do not simpatice with the new black president we have. Why? Wasn't he elected by the people? Then let's give this man our support so we can really fix the recession problem. Arguying about not buying a Japanese car because we can't get that old hate out of our hearts isn't going to make things easier. Let's be part of the solution yes?

It is selective memory, no doubt.

And these are not very cognizant people who base their opinions off of emotion alone. I think those that 'get' what you're saying are already there. Those who obviously do not- will , most likely, refuse to ever make that trip

I'm into my second Toyota Camry, fourth year of leasing one, and you'd have to pry my cold dead hands off of its steering wheel. It has never required anything but an oil change and I baby it with Amsoil top grade. Never sneezed, never coughed, and never failed to catch on the first revolution of the starter motor.

Now, to be fair, the "Big Three" U.S. automakers do make some good cars and trucks as well. Their problem was that they allowed the Asian car makers to gain the advantage over them. I'll tell you how this happened: The Big Three automakers reacted to the need to comply to tougher emission standards by adding heavy and bulky add-ins" on their existing engines where the Asian car makers designed all new engines. The Big Three tried to turn gas engines into diesel by modifying existing blocks. Asian makers designed diesel engines. The Big Three tried to ignore the trend toward smaller economy cars and kept making SUVs and huge sedans etc. while the Asians brought out all new lines of lighter, cheaper, more economical cars yearly. The Big Three kept their factories up in the Union States and paid exorbitant wages and lifelong benefits to their union goon workers while the Asians settled into "Right to work" Southern states and didn't have to pay Union wages and perks saving huge amounts of money and still turned out profitable, desirable cars. Keep in mind Toyota as well as others are made in the USA by American workers. Of course with Obama's "Card Check" promise, I suppose this will be coming to an end and we might very well see Toyota and others closing their plants and moving back overseas stranding tens of thousands of American workers, newly unionized, with no jobs at all and I'm going to laugh myself sick when that happens. I want to see every employer forced to unionize close down immediately and leave their workers high and dry. That is exactly what I'd do if my workers forced that using that intimidation tactic.

Really- that would be funny to you? I cannot see ever owning an american car that doesn't have a classic plate (like my british baby) but I find no joy in people losing their jobs...

Goodnts but not acuratte 100%. Yes Amsoil is the best American oil out there. Emission systems are not really bulky now days, but they are complex and expensive rising the car's price and repair costs.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
