Wait them out on the picket line. 11wks they should be about ready to cave. Break the Union and then go after Management Bonuses.

There's no way the workers should have accepted AA's initial demand of $12 wages. It was worth it for them to go on strike because they could make $12 an hour anywhere, and those jobs weren't worth saving for $12. AA has been making tons of money and paying the CEO tens of millions a year so it's total BS for them to try to low-ball the workers.
Now that GM has said they want this strike over, the workers should hold out for a decent offer. GM is getting nervous and putting pressure on AA. The workers need to hold out til AA caves in and plays fair. |

How many times will GM bail out its suppliers before itself if bankrupt?
Everytime someone reads about GM paying someone $140K to go unemployed they head for the Toyota dealership! |

DETROIT (AP)-- General Motors Corp. says it will pay up to $200 million to help bring an end to a crippling labor dispute at parts supplier American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc.
The automaker said Thursday in a government filing that the money would go to subsidize lower wages for striking workers, and for employee buyout and early retirement packages. About 3,600 workers at five American Axle factories have been on strike for more than nine weeks because the company wants to cut their wages and benefits. The strike has crippled GM's production of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. American Axle spokeswoman Renee Rogers says negotiations with workers are continuing. |

Actually tonawanda forge makes toyota parts for thier cars and trucks.. once again the uniformed public bashes the aam workers |

They won't be hiring them in NY....AAM closing shop here. |

I don't hear any of them on here complaining like yourself.........duhhhhhhhh |

They wouldn't last 1 hour at my job in the summer. 125 degrees in the plant, working with 2500 degree steel, wearing coveralls with the collar up so your neck doesn't get burned by scale..they should try it sometime before telling everybody we don't earn our money!

|
MAN ya is all burnt out lol get a space suit its airconditioned lol |
|
And at that $12.00 per hour they want everyone else to work for. Well if they want the job that bad make it $10.00 per hour. |

I hear Dick wants to close Tonawanda Forge. He knows he couldn't find anyone to do those jobs at the $12.00 price point so he does the next best thing. He has fulfilled his obligations as far as the MOU was concerned. So he is moving on and the heck with all of the dedicated workers he had that helped make him what he is today. I just wish he could see what an impact he has on so many lives and think it's not just about him in the long run. Great men do great things. He still has the power to be a great man.

We are making money in my department at the forge and were still landing new contracts up to the time the srike started, all under the previous cost structure. It can still be done if you try. The problem is AAM doesn't want to try any more in this area-actually in this country. There is no way you can compete with third world countrys when it comes to labor costs, health care costs, enviromental laws (none in third world countrys),goverment taxes, etc... Its too bad because the workers were willing and expected to take pay cuts, just not a 66% cut. Nobody would agree to that.

The HF department always carried the rest of the plant. And you have a great work force in that department. When you guys developed the Toyota Spindle, you would work until you got the part what ever it took. If it meant you had to put extra hours into developing it, you would stay. The work force is not the problem. People like to put down the Union Worker for what ever reason. They do not have a clue on what a loyal work force Dick has at the forge. And to blame the work force for all of the problems is just wrong. There are other ways to cut costs than a 66% pay cut. And if all else fails, you guys can hold Hillary to all of those jobs she said she would create for New York State. Yea right.............

Try to remember GM suppliers that are"bailed out" were once GM and contractually obligated for proir "GM" employees. Have you heard the word "flow back' before? This is my fourth "GM"plant..from Fisher Guide, Inland Fisher Guide, Delphi, GM..still chasing my retirement. 32 yrs. and do not feel secure. Take the 45k and retire...I think not. Better to haave a job. |
