I would love to be in the room when you and You got my vote Mayor discuss politics. That would be some very entertaining stuff.

If you can't manage your time better than that then perhaps you've got too much on your plate! Why do you think Julia Carson is the target of so many attacks? It's because she has a lousy attendance record! One of the worst in fact! Her constituents don't seem to mind that fact and that is a shame because she was put there to represent them and if she's not there, how can she!
Interesting. If you and I were colleagues, I would only worry about you if you didn't pull your weight on our projects. When you accomplished your work would be of no interest to me. As long as my representative votes and represents my district, I don't care if he walks in the room 15 minutes early or 5 minutes late.

As long as the vote isn't postponed because we're constantly having to wait on you to show up, then fine! How you choose to represent your constituents is between you and them! If I were in charge of the meeting and there was a quorum of members present, we would vote with you or without you! If you missed the vote, then that's on you!

Hillary is a very fat cat. Didn't she make big money on some shady deals? Meanwhile Bill is making millions by showing up and speaking for numerous corporations.

Very cynical and pessimistic, but I'm afraid also very probable.

Moral standards and character have gone by the wayside, and I just don't see many people of character like I did 30 years ago.

C'mon, be serious. On how many committees have you served where taking votes is the first thing on the agenda? Excerpts from the CCC's September 17 agenda:

1) Prayer/Pledge of Allegiance
2) Roll Call
3) Introduction of Guests and Visitors
4) Official Communications

You could come in safely after #4 and not miss much. Certainly, you wouldn't miss the presentations of proposals and voting opportunities.

It's nice to have everyone there on time, but it isn't critical to the Council's business. As long as the real business gets accomplished, council members can do the rest on their own time....or not at all. That's where Bob needs to focus his efforts. Driving the committee to get the business accomplished. If he's going to start off by trying to be a tough guy who is a clockwatcher, I think we'll all suffer.

Did the Republicans actually look at Cockrum's undistinguished record before hiring him as Council Pres?

He's virtually ignored Decatur Township for 12 years as a Council member. His only accomplishments that he really touts are his work on the parks, his work on the Scarbourough Peace Games, and his work to help with flood control. Other than that...not much...12 years in the council...the majority mostly...and nothing really distinguished.

He also sponsored one of the "19 tax increases" touted by the R's against the D's this past election and voted for four others.

I believe he will hold up progress towards consolidation...which is necessary according to the Governor for reducing property taxes.

Now stand at attention when you address the new goverment body of Indianapolis. Colonel Bob Cockrum and Lt. Colonel Greg Ballard.
The first meeting of the CCC in January will be by reserve setting only.:)
No David, no one in the entire city of Indianapolis or the entire world should stand at attention to Colonel Bob Cockrum or Lt. Colonel Greg Ballard come January. Those two men are only City-County Council President-elect Bob Cockrum and Mayor-elect Greg Ballard -- their military titles will not be in effect as they lead the city.

They are and will be serving the people of the city in the capacity as elected officials. Your ridiculous comments of standing at attention to these two men is no better than your perceived notions about Bart Peterson's lack of caring for the people of Indianapolis.

I would imagine it would be wise to stop the rather childish antic of tooting one's own horn of winning this election; else, you and the men to whom you stand attention may be the ones who are "whinny" (as you spell it) in four years (remember, it was the Democrats who did the same four years ago, and look what happened to them).

----------
By the way, how does one get the title "Editor" under one's profile? If mis-spelling an average of a word a sentence, having fragments and run-on sentences abounding, and forgetting basic punctuation marks is how to become an editor (on top of a basically nasty attitude towards mostly everyone on here), SYnE. MeE. UPPP!!

There are people who would consider your position to be logically as well as morally inconsistent. To them, it's not a matter of guilt or innocence. Rather, it's a matter of valuing life (or not), particularly since there are ways to punish criminals without executing them.

Reasonable people may voice their opinions and find they must disagree. But neither you nor the original poster adds to the credibility of your respective positions by resorting to insults or name calling.

Bart Peterson cared so much for us he raise taxes 18 times in the last 8 years. Stay with the facts not spelling and typos I have always heard that when one attacks a person insead of the subject, they have no place else to go.

Shockingly, you failed to understand what I was saying. I think you must have misunderstood that I was saying YOU were the one with the perceived notion of Bart Peterson not caring (and how that is as foolish as saying we should stand at attention to Bob Cockrum and Greg Ballard). Only someone with a slight graspe of reality would think that Bart Peterson cared nothing for the general welfare of the people of Indianapolis.

You implored me to "stay with the facts", yet in the previous breath you said Bart Peterson "raise taxes 18 times in the last 8 years".(it's 18 now? Or was it 19, or 14 or 10?) I guess you could say I was a little dumbfounded by your statement because I did not know the mayor personally raised taxes. Did he take a vote himself for all 18 (or is it 25 or 31?) tax raises?

I was always under the impression that the council was the only one who had the power to raise taxes since the mayor was generally considered what I think most people call an executive position. There I am straying from the facts I guess. Is the mayor of Indianapolis a position of dictatorship then?

And please do not pretend you stand on the high ground of morality about attacking a person instead of the issues; although my original comments may have been unnecessary, hipocrisy -- likewise -- is not necessary on your end.

"Stay with the facts" -- something you told me to do previously David. Here's a fact:

Like it or not, Monroe Gray is still the President of the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council. He will be president of said body until January 1, 2008 unless he either voluntarily removes himself or is involuntarily removed from the position or his entire post as councillor.

Sorry, but he is still more than "nothing else" on the "counsel" (sic)-- although his complete removal from the council would probably be a great relief to many.

Ok here are your facts. Peterson and the city county counsel raised taxes two times. There were 17 other “surcharges” put on services. Peterson was nailed on this at one of the debates and he said all those were needed for services. Before this he said he did not raise anything 19 times while in office. The people that question him on this went down the whole list for him. This he could not get out of. No he did not have a dictatorship, he had something better, a democratic controlled counsel. Sorry but you boy still lost the election.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Libra

It's one of those difficult days when anything can and will happen. Someone you were relying on might let you down, plans could be changed at the eleventh hour or a machine could go on the blink. To make matters worse, your energy levels are very erratic, so you feel full of beans one minute and ready to go to sleep the next. Don't make the situation worse by eating foods that give you a high followed by a slump.
