I'm not happy with Whirlpool right now. My fridge stopped cooling but the fans were still blowing. Turns out my relay start kit went bad on my ED25PEXHW02 that I bought from Lowes. Repair company charged me a total of $189 to replace a $30 part in about five minutes. It was like a Lego piece -- that's how easy it was to pop it out and put the new one in. I only learned about the cost of the part (4SP1024) afterwards.

The third repairman just left my house!! I'm beyond upset. I just did this big kitchen remodel, spent over $9,000.00 on Jenn Air and Kitchen Aid appliances and I have the Jenn Air gurgle. The Maytag store where I bought it said they've never heard of such a thing. But all three repairman said it is normal to most new refrigerators!! The store refuses to take it back and says it;s between me and Whirlpool Corporation. I am telling everyone I know!!

Amana's idea of 'energy-star' is to put a teeny pump and reduce the amount of coolant. Problem is, with mine (and I know some others) is that this configuration makes for a noise when the coolant is pumped up the tube. Mine was making a 'knocking' sound, probably about 50-55 dB (just a guess, based on conversation being about 60dB.) So after three service calls where the tech did about nothing (screwed around gently bending the coolant feed tube away from the wall of the reefer) a different tech on the last callout provided what Amana is calling a 'Gurgle Kit.' To put this on, he straightened the tube, put some putty-like crap around the tube, then wrapped it in a piece of foam tubing like you use to keep your pipes from freezing, only smaller. Well about ten minutes after he left, instead of a knock-knock sound, since there is now no resistence to the air or liquid in the line by the tube being curved, it goes straight up the pipe, sounding like an old Chevy throwing a rod, at about 65-68 dB (like a small lawn mower, or someone knocking on the door!)
(1). BOYCOTT AMANA REFrigerators. Which is Amana, Kitchen-Aid, Whirlpool, Jenn-Aire, etc. They will eventually screw you!
(2). Pass the word. Please help them gather some attention by a drop in sales!
(3). Please inform me of any class-action suits going re this matter.)Amana, Kitchen-Aid, Whirlpool, Jenn-Aire, etc.) If you're an attorney, and want it, pm me. I'm in a small town, and when I was in the store bitching at the owner, a phone call came in from someone with a Whirlpool doing the same thing, so I know that there are more than a few with this problem.
Thanks, and REMEMBER-NO AMANA or WHIRLPOOL!

Just found out my five yr old super duper Amana fride is shot. I wasted $1300 w/ the bastards for a side by side w/ ice marker & water pisser. Model ARS2664A. Repair man charges me $40 to tell me to buy a new one. Maybe I should buy an old one? He says to buy a Whirlpool. WTF aren't they the same damn company.

I recently bought an Amana bottom/F fridge and also found myself answering the knock at the front door. I soon relized it was the fridge, duuuh. After hearing texas fred`s rant, I`m not sure what to do !! Pitch it and write it off as a loss or start playing with putty handed techs`? My extended warranty is to the max. What would you do ??

For the fourth time since November of 2004, the
defrost cycle on my Amana bottom freezer, purchased in the summer of 2004 has stopped working. The compressor has been replaced 3 times, and each time it stopped working. Last Sept they replaced the control panel.

There should be a recall on these. Anyone have similar problems?

I also have a knocking Amana, bottom freezer fridge. They REPLACED it once with a unit that has the same problem. I want my money back but they now claim there is no problem!

Well maybe you should've checked the warranty and with Lowe's first. I had a problem and demanded Lowe's service be out in 2 days which they were and they fixed my refrigerator (free of charge, w/in warranty). Sounds like you didn't read up. Also, having easy access to parts makes it easier to fix things, you sound like my 9 year old son...

The product is defective. Be careful not to be a victim and the fridge breaks on you. They only cover the part and labor for 1 year and after one year the BILLS ARE YOURS.
Am surprised that they don't have any consumer civil law suite against them

i have the exact same fridge.....i've HAD the same problem...i put exactly one ounce of dry nitrogen into the system and lo and behold...problem solved....it was a trick to do on frigidaire side by side fridges when they made knocking noises. if anyone else has this problem suggest this to your repairman if he needs to be called to check out your fridge. and if im the one to show up at your door, it will be fixed. anyone who tries to "putty" the problem, needs to go back to school

My friend is having the same problem with Model # ABB2224DEQ bottom freezer. Her tenant called a repair person who charged $90 to come out and diagnosed the problem as the compressor having died. The repair person quoted an $800 charge to replace the compressor. I think I am going to call one of these consumer reporters on local T.V. stations to see if they can deal with it. The refrigerator was purchased for about $1500 and is no older than 4 years.

My friend purchased her bottom freezer Amana from Sears. I'm going to contact them and find out why the heck a four-year-old refrigerator's compresser dies?! I'm seeing more and more of these complaints about Amana's bottom freezer refrigerators. I'm going to file a complaint on behalf of my friend with everyone I can, from Sears (where she purchased it) to Amana, to consumer agencies, to the consumer department of the attorney general's office of our state. I will also call the local television channels if I don't get a positive response from either Sears or Amana. I suggest you and everyone else do the same.

Having issue with my 4 year old Amana bottom freezer fridge. Makes the buzzing sound then a click. Thought it was the relay, so I ordered one and chaged it today, that did not fix. Now looks like the compressor is dead. These are junk. Compressor failure seems common (search web), should have been a recall. Still in my 5 year window, warranty says it will cover compressor but not labor. Will call Amana (Whirlpool) on Monday to see what they say. Pain in the neck, will never buy their product again. Expected more from a $1200.00 fridge that's only 4 years old.

My 4 yr old Amana french door bottom freezor w/ice & water's started making horrible noises and then one night we opened the freezor door and all was melting. A repairman came and said we needed a new compressor but he couldn't do it for 11 days. Fortunately we kept our old 12 yr old fridge and put it in the basement and was able to use that. It was a pain to go up and down stairs for 11 days. What do people do who don't have a spare fridge??? Luckily it had a 5 yr warranty and we only paid $75. but I am not too confident that this won't happen again....shouldn't they give another 5 yr warrantee when they replace the compressor? I will never buy another appliance from Amana. There should be some kind of class action suit, I think....this is ridiculous and it seems to be an epidemic.

Don't give up now. If you are not happy with it, do not stop calling. Call Whirlpool customer service as much and complain as loud as you can. Tell them you are not satisified with this issue and any other issue you have. If you complain enough they will fix it. That is how it is done, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. They will replace it with a new unit that does not have this issue, but only if you keep complaining. Keep and provide copies of all the money you have spent, buying the appliances and repairs as well. Just keep calling. Can't hurt to write emails if you can get an address for someone high enough. Look in Whirlpool's annual report for names, their email format is firstname_middle initial_last name@whirlpool.com

My friend and I both bought Amana Side by side refrigerators in 2002(approx 1800.00). From day one we both had the same problems one veggi compartment freezes up and the other ok. The ice maker stops making ice and Amana states "take out the ice maker cover and put a hair dryer on high heat next to ice maker...it will start making ice again." I will never buy Amana or any product under the Maytag corp of products...next will be Japan or German...are there any class action lawsuits against Amana? Amana is the worst refrigerator I have ever used!!!

If you got your Amana fridge before 2007 than it is probably junk yes. That was built by Maytag Corp not Whirlpool. Maytag was going down high from 2000-2007 and was out sourcing a lot of things. The Whirlpool built Amana and Maytags are now on Whirlpools great quality standards.

FYI to be accurate: Whirlpool bought the Amana & Jenn-Air brands; all refrigerators are not Amana or Jenn-Air built. All bottom drawer freezer 20 & 25 cubic foot units are built on the Amana platform, however Kitchen-Aid was and continues to be a stand alone brand with its own industry exclusive 22 CuFt bottom drawer model and distinct side-by-side models.
