I can't say that I've ever seen a size 28 flight attendant. Most seem fairly trim to me - you'd have to be to spend the day walking up and down those narrow aisles.

There actually are flight attendants that NEED a size 28?

woo...I don't know where to start. I understand the point of rules and regulations, but telling me I can't have green braces? Seriously...grow up.

HR won't say they do it, but they wouldn't hire a larger person to be a flight attendant. I know it's discrimination, but in all honesty, it's common sense. And if you start getting to that overweight/obese point, you wouldn't have the energy to stand the entire flight. Plus it's bad enough when the obese passengers bump their butts in your face on their way to the restrooms.

I agree with above - hard to not stay fit when you're walking around while flying all day and probably eating limited meals.

It's about time someone remembers the "good ol days" when flying was glamourous and the flight attendants were svelte.
It seems that the some flight attendants no longer care about their image.
As a former FA, I remember the days of the mirrors in our check in area as well as the "once overs" the supervisors would give us.
There wasn't much time for eating on flights and sometimes not even on layovers. We walked miles and miles a day.

Having been on many airlines, all over the world, I think it is fair to say that the American carriers are not on the top of the list for most professional looking flight attendants.

Take a gooooood look at yourself, crew. Do you like what you see?

Another reason why unions need to go the way of the dinosaur. They only create crybabies. If you worked for a non-union company you wouldn't have any say in what color your uniform was, or how attractive, or anything else for that matter. You put up, shut up, or go work for someone else.

Unions were created in an age when employees had no protection from unfair and unsafe employment practices. We now have laws and watchdogs in place to protect workers. They have outlived their usefulness.

Instead of being grateful they even have these low skill jobs with decent pay and great benefits, they complain about uniforms. If you're too fat to get into the red uniforms then either lose some weight or don't wear them!

At size 28 wouldn't you be a floatation device instead of a flight attendant?

I like curvy women, but if I were a woman, I woudn't even want to wear red if I were bigger than a size 18...I would be afraid of kids teasing me by calling me "Kool Aid".

I'm totally serious, btw; I'm not trying to be funny.

Trade unions serve many purposes, and none of them are outdated. If your not impressed with the wages, benefits, and safe work protocol that come with union jobs then find a job somewhere else. If your politically set against unions, move to a southern state like Florida where you will find a job waiting for you with half your current wage, no benefits and a workplace infused with outdated, oppressive management styles.

For as much good unions CAN do, they do just as much bad. I still love it when unions picket when they don't get the job. They actually pay these people to stand there all day???(just practicing for when they do get a job I guess). Well, maybe you should be cheaper and do a better job! Pretty simple.....

Well then Mr. Tradeunionist here's a suggestion for you and your members, look in the mirror and change your own outdated and oppressive styles. For the union to make a big deal out these stupid uniforms is ridiculous. It makes the union cause look very frivolous to the non-union public who is trying survive and put food on the table.

It's a good thing that Delta is not taking on the Hooters Uniform Phylosophy.
They have a very limited range in uniform sizes, and if you don't fit into it, you don't get the job. Or in some cases, keep the job.
I'm not saying that Delta Flight Attendants should be in Hooter uniforms,(that is just a personal dream), but a FA should be fit enough to work in the aisles, and they should be fit enough to handle an extreme situation like a passenger that needs medical attention. I don't think that all of the passengers of the flight that crashed into the Hudson River would have survived if the FAs were not in good physical condition.
My second point would be; if passengers are limited by the size of suitcase they can bring on to a flight because of weight, and larger passengers are charged more, then there should be an expectation that the FAs are on the physically fit and not over weight!
If the FAs are over weight, I want a discount on my flight!

Just another thing for someone to gripe about. I fly quite a bit and have never seen a big fattie roaming the aisles that would NEED a size 28. But then again a size 28 probably couldn't roam the aisles. She'd be stuck up front. Seriously though, find something of REAL concern to gripe about. Maybe the male FA's should bit*h that they weren't offered a red suit to wear!

I'm sure the union is speaking because it's members have concerns. You make it sound like they don't work for their members and just bitch about anything. If big momma wants a red dress let her have one.

Really? Then explain why Wal-Mart was found guilty of 2 million MN labor law violations. And that is in just on state. So much for your "laws and watchdogs".

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Sagittarius

Slow down! You're trying to do too much and it's driving you - and everyone else - up the wall. What's more, if you're in too much of a hurry you'll start to become accident-prone and that will make you even more het up. Try to take any setbacks or domestic mishaps in your stride, otherwise you'll end the day feeling like a nervous wreck.
