Sorry my pilot friends but job security no longer exists anywhere. Everybody is cutting back to save money because its the only way they can survive. Its good business for DHL to partner up with UPS or Fed Ex because they are all losing money, and since DHL is much smaller than the other two it would likely be the first to go belly up as fuel prices rise higher. Instead of picketing, they should be filling out applications for their next career because a lot of them are going to lose their jobs eventually. This is probably just the first step to DHL being taken over completely by UPS, and when that happens all DHL employees will be standing in the unemployment line.

It is an absurd decision by DHL to have their chief competitor manage the most crucial aspect of the freight system.
DHL is bilking the taxpayers of of hundreds of millions of dollars that were part of an incentive package in return for long term commitments, which they gave and are now taking back.
Consumers should write their Congressmen about this. DHL wants this deal finalized prior to the Christmas shipping season so they can raise rates and make a killing. With less competition, rates to ship your gifts will at least double.
DHL is in the process of destroying 2 cargo companies that their employees have spent 30 years building.

Just so you know, carriers like UPS and FDX only increase their rates at the beginning of each year. On average the increase is around 4.9% for ground transportation. Both carriers can get a package from the east coast to the west coast in 4 business days. Both companies offer a money back guarantee if the package does not make it on time. Both companies offer a tracking guarantee if the data is not current and up to date you can request your shipping charges back. DHL service was rated worse than the USPS according to the industry. They lost money because they did not do what they said they would do. Their sales people leave because they get tired of dealing with the poor level of service. Driver turn over at DHL is the worst in the industry. UPS will make 1 billion dollars each year for 10 years for moving DHL's air containers from airport to airport. UPS does not handle a single package, they do not scan or sort anything. BY doing this, DHL saves 1 billion dollars each year. If you were planning to run a company into the ground in less than 5 years DHL wrote the book, executed the book and keep referring to the book. Only pressure from Germany changed that....... More to come

I totally agree that this proposal is absurd! I am currently working for an independent contractor for DHL in Illinois. We were doing better when we were just Airborne Express. The truth of the matter is they don't care about American's lives and jobs. They want to keep the international business here and dump the rest. I guwss they are done "playing" in America. greg wrote: It is an absurd decision by DHL to have their chief competitor manage the most crucial aspect of the freight system. Ellen, we were all better off before DPWN and their dishonest and dishonorable bunch bought in. Speaking of disingenuous, UPS has a program called " Welfare To Work ". What they're actually going to do here is put tens of thousands from work to welfare. They were quoted in the Atlanta paper as saying they have no intention of hiring displaced workers.
Good luck.
