2008 Chevrolet Malibu stealing sales from foreign makes
If GM has any hope of regaining its title of world's biggest carmaker from Toyota its vehicles must not only sell well but they should also regain market share lost to rivals.

Umm, 28.2% of Honda and Toyota owners parking the Camry and opting for a Chevrolet. That my friend is absolutely incredible. It’s remarkable to even lure import owners into a Chevy dealership, much less buying a Chevrolet. Furthermore, keep in mind this was a soft PR release. Only a few commercials were run with the same tagline “the car you cant ignore.” That’s a bit impressive, just to let the CAR speak for itself. Further, the headline is quite informative and correct; even you support that with the aforementioned comment. Geez, why are you so negative about American made vehicles anyway? Here, read this article about the Malibu. It’s unbiased and quite in depth. Indeed it’s one of the better articles out there. http://www.king5.com/sharedcontent/northwest/... |

Not buying it at all. Chevy PR machine is having all sorts of baseless claims while it loses market share. In fact, the Malibu is not selling any better than the "classic" Malibu that was dominated by rental fleets.
Camry sold 48,000 in March alone while the Malibu only sold 12,000 so Malibu has a long way to go before it even comes near its main competitors who sell 30,000 vehicles a month. |

Wow, so you don’t buy it even though it comes from a generally pro import organization. Reading through your “mini post a thon” and low and behold it turns out (as always) every single comment was negative. Gee, what a bundle of joy you are. Go find a woman and leave the forum please.
BTW – since you (the car lord) doesn’t “buy it.” Why don’t you pursue the author and call them on it? Hell, maybe you can find some hidden agenda and expose it. You would be a hero. You hero. |
My friend have you read the article? ONLY 3.4% traded in a Toyota 2.7% traded in there Honda's and 3.4% traded in ther nissan's for a new Malibu so a total of 9.5% traded in Japanese cars for a Malibu. Get the facts right, tell the truth. Iam not antinegative about American cars it is people like you who carry on if it's not American it's junk. You don't give credit to other manufactures when it is due. take care . |

1 I am the one that approved the article after confirming the “facts” were accurate, so the headline stays. AS for the “FACTS”– it states FACTUALLY that honda and Toyota owners are buying Malibu. IT doest say “Mr. Ebert says that since it’s a small percentage it isn’t true.” Further, you are a nut if you believe I think anything other than American cars are junk. In FACT, you are simply misguided. That’s ok however, it your prerogative. AT any rate, just for the record, I think honda makes a reliable vehicle. I also envy quite a few of the European and Australian models. Frankly you can blow it out your back end. Thanks for trying to tell me how I feel about cars though, real clever. Regards. |

case and point
Just because you see a smaller percentage doest mean it’s not a FACT. Life doest say …ummm.. since the bullet only hit the left .001% of my aortic ventricle I’m not going to die. Or maybe hmm, statistics say pancreatic cancer has a very low survival rate, BUT I David Ebert see the opposite. I DAVID EBERT say that since it’s a small percentage, ITS NOT TRUE. If it looks like a slut smells like a slut, and walks like a slut it’s probably a slut. Good grief. |

Well the sales figure for April will be out in a couple of days and we will see then. Camry sold 48,000 in March so ther figure should be about 35,000 Malibu sold 12,000 in March so Apri; will show a increase to about 15,000. pitty GM has so many unproductive dealers who let the team down. Well I am off to Perth Western Australia for a week or so for a break. So look after yourself .

Nobody said they expect Malibu sales to overtake Accord or Camry sales, much less even approach that territory. The thread simply states that indeed a percentage of import owners are switching to Malibu. It’s nice to see Chevrolet finally come out with a vehicle that competes in this market. .

12,000 a month is a good number huh! GOOD FING LUCK! |

Are you upset that honda and Toyota owners are parking their rides and buying a Chevrolet? Why the negativity? I would hope you would add substance to the forum and give kudos to the General for competing in this market again. |
|
Hard to say that people are parking their Camrys and Accords when April sales data showed that both Toyota and Nissan posted increased sales in a smaller market.
The data clearly shows that people are parking their Impalas and buying the new Malibu. Impala sales have been like a lead balloon. Why no mention of that? Are people parking their Impalas and buying Camrys and Accords? Their sales |

....replace Nissan with Honda in the above post, though Nissan did show sales increases with the Altima, Versa, and Sentra.

Basically, this is just an expected repeat of the late 1970's and early 1980's when the domestic auto industry was caught off guard to higher fuel prices, paving the way for foreign automakers to make inroads into our market.
It will likely get worse before it gets better. |

Hard to say it is a repeat of the 70’s as the Malibu beats all of those vehicles you just listed in MPG.
Frankly (just as I stated in November) 2008 is going to be a horrendous year for ALL automakers, especially the domestics. Just as I stated “It’s going to be deadly.” Low and behold, six months later here comes trucking and bush…. OMG!! GM lost this Chrysler lost that… Ford sucks…. Wow what a bunch of pure bred geniuses. I wish we could go back to the way this forum used to be – a CAR forum. Not a corporate finance study. |
|
Well, at the moment corporate finance is a much larger issue than product portfolio!
|
|
Nobody can afford to lose billions year after year & say we are on top. This is the year sombody is going to go under,i dont care how creative your accounting is! |
|
Or how good the cars are.....if they can't turn a profit, and lots of it, then it's pointless to design, manufacture, and market them. |

The Japanese buy Japanese, the Germans buy German, the British buy British. For the most part people support thier own,but Americans have no loyalty towards thier fellow workers, but let thier job go "bye bye" and they are the first ones squalling like a 2 year old.
