I don't know a lot of details, but I recently was told the popular southeastern coffee company has been sold over to Starbucks, effective in Aug. 2006. If anyone has more details on this, I would love to hear it. Will the Franchises be affected as well as the owned stores?

No I think that is incorrect since I know for sure that Barnie's has recently signed up with a company in India as master franchisees for In dia and still retails its originality.

Starbucks does not have a franchising system, they operate on a licensing basis so i guess every ones ok

I spoke to manager at our Barnies today. Franchises will be ok but all others are becoming Starbucks. This includes the one in Melb Sq Mall. I have been going there since their inception over 20 yrs ago. I am very sad to see barnies leave our area.

Dear all its all scrap...there is no business deal between Starbucks & Barnies Coffee at all...its all rumours....Barnies has recently launched its outlet in India on 17th Aug...and many more are in pipeline...so all the loyal customers of Barnies coffee dont bother about the rumours spreading all across...

They are selling all of their Barnies locations that are in MALLS to Starbucks. All the free-standing ones that aren't a part of a mall are okay. Also, all the ones that are independently owned are okay.

Starbucks bought Barnies corporate owned stores in Florida and Asheville, NC. Florida was an area of opportunity for Charbucks.
As a former Barnies employee, I still believe no one did drip coffee or tea better.

I knew this day would come. A few of the Barnies owners are nothing but MONEY HUNGRY GRUBS, who use intmidation to run the company and do not listen to the majority owner who is a nice gentleman and is being taken care of. I wish him well.

If your local Barnie's closed and you don't like Starbucks, check out Bad Ass Coffee. Their coffee is SOO GOOD! The regular coffee is smooth, not bitter, and they have a bunch of flavored coffees too. The website for the one in my town in www.badasscoffeeorlando.com . Visit www.badasscoffee.com if you want to see all their locations. Enjoy!

Sure miss Barnies in our malls in S.E. Florida.. but if you have a "Fresh Market" near you, they have really good coffee--flavored as well.Whole bean and ground. No "coffee bar" as in Barnies though.Worth checking out.

Barnies was the only coffee place in our little mall in NJ, and we are so sad to see it go. I have never understood the crazyness around Starbucks. Their coffee is OK at best. Barnies was great, and we will miss it dearly. Bye-bye caffe mocha & Santas White Christmas.:(

The latest rumor is that Starbucks Bitter & Over-Roasted Coffee Company is also preparing to devour smaller competitors such as Gloria Jean's and Paco's in the same way.
If it's even partly based in fact, the rumor would bring to mind the 50's horror flick "The Blob", about an all-consuming evil thing with no discernable good features. Yep, that's Starbucks to a "T".

Does anyone know if the Barnies in Merritt Square Mall will be closing?

Relax people. This was strictly a Real Estate transaction. It did not make sense for the Barnie's Corporate to hold all of these stores, especially in malls where most of a coffee business was in the morning from senior citizens exercising to stroller moms and a few stragglers. They are focusing more on expanding the franchise business. And for Charbucks it is market share and to be in as many places as humanly possible. Visit the NEW BARNIE'S CAFE in downtown Miami on 169 Flagler Street right across from the Gusman Theater.
