There are very few jobs that will hire a convicted felon. The gov. will not give assisted housing or hud to felons. Now ok, there are felons that have been charged with rape, child molestation and other disgusting, ungodly things such as this, but I am just simply talking about offenses such as a drug charge, or stealing. If you are convicted of a drug charge than you are not even able to receive food stamps. Hell if I could not get a job to feed myself and my family, or clothe and house us, I would probably steal and sell drugs too, whatever it takes to survive. So how can we expect felons to stay out of prison if they have no choice but to continue doing the same things to survive, which will eventually lead them straight back to the pin. God loves and forgives everyone, who are we not to as well?

I agree with the statement above. I wish I had the means and knowledge to start a foundation to assist felons with getting housing, going to school, and getting jobs. I am a convicted felon. I was charged with tampering with physical evidence after the police came to my house looking for my fiance and I lied and said I hadn't seen him, and he was really inside my house. I was taken to jail, where I told them the truth. I was released and so was my fiance. Because I told the police truth my fiance and his family was furious with me and a few days later I was attacked in my home and taken to the hospital and later into protective custody. I have changed my whole life and have choosen to surround myself with people that will help me stay on the right path. I am currently a college student. With a 3.2 GPA. I have a passion for people and would like to one day become a RN. But, after appling to the program I was denied for having a felony. I was told ro get a lawyer and try and have the conviction removed. But lets get reall here. If I had money like I would have got a lawyer back when the whole thing happened. I can't afford it. I'm barley able to pay rent. I can buy my children school clothes. Every day I wake up I hate myself for the discions I made in the past, I think about giving up all the time. I wonder why I'm still here. What does God have planned for me. Because right now every door is being slammed in my face and I don't know where to turn. It upsets me to see my children have to suffer. I would like to set an example for my children, raise them to be respectful adults. I just don't know how my children and I are goign to make it, in a world that places so much judgement on us.

Even if your not on probation or parole try going to your local probation office and asking if they have a list of workplaces that hire felons, most of them do.
I am An Ex-felon and i have been out for about five years and i agree with AMERICAN too.
There needs to be justice for those of us that served our sentence.
But a little word for AMERICAN, not all registered sex offenders are child molesters or rapists, thanks to some dumb little B#$%@ i got convicted and sentenced to for and a half years and did every single day of it because she lied, and also told the judge, states attorney and grand jury that she lied, so even the innocent get screwed.
Also try hard2hire.com its a job search thats dedicated to felons but they haven't found anything for me yet, but i'm in vegas so it's also impossible here.

After a felon slaps society in the face, why then does society have to take care of them. Crime should have negative consequences and foods stamps and other forms of gifts from society does not equal negative consequences. A person makes their choices and then they have to live with the consequences. If they had a temporary bout of insanity it still does not erase the crime. If they get religion after well good for them but it still does not erase the crime.Society can not function if people are not held accountable for their behavior.

yeah and when you tell a felon that he cant get a job after he has already done his time for whatever he or she did then your are promoting them to go out and get things illegally in order to provide for their families.
so in other words you are contradicting yourself, lets not give felons a second chance to set his life straight, lets let him kill and steal to support his family instead so we can spend thirty five thousand a year to support him in prison where he doesnt do anything.
then again it makes sense, your probably one of the people thats ok with the illegals coming over and getting welfare too.

I myself am a convicted felon, on stupid drug charges, not ingesting, but stealing them. I was young and got caught up in a crowd that swore nothing would happen, they got greedy and I tried to stop, but it was already too late. I am currently on probation with 5 years hanging over me. I've definitely learned from my mistakes. When I was arrested, my son was only 8 months old. I also have 2 older daughters, 4 and 5 at the time. Now, I can barely get by with the job I was lucky to get, I've lost primary custodial rights to my 4 year old daughter, and all I ask for is food stamps so that my kids can eat. I don't even care about feeding myself. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services said that I couldn't because of the charges and that I make too much money for my kids to receive food stamps. The government sucks and there needs to be more help and assistance for those trying to better their lives.
