Am opposed to the merger of XM and Sirius. A recent newspaper article stated that XM subscribers would have to replace radios to receive transmissions if merger approved. Recently purchased a 2008 hybrid toyota with XM radio. This merger would make my radio obsolete, but could be replaced for an additional $200.00 dollars according to the newspaper article. Think of all other toyota new car owners and the thousands of cars left sitting at dealerships with XM radios that supposedly will have to be replaced. Add to that the number of individuals that own XM radios that are not permanent fixtures in autos. Wow the number is staggering. How can this be an advantage to the consumer?

If they continue the way things are you wouldn’t have to worry about replacing it....they could end up out of business and you with no satellite radio. Ipods and other new devices have hurt satellite growth. Not to mention less cars being sold now.
They have said they will continue to broadcast on both services I believe though 2013 as that is when the current satellites would need to be replaced, then at that time they would have a need to phase out older radios. That will happen even if the merger didn’t go though and they are still in business that is. I would also guess that at that time they would have a cheaper conversion unit available to buy as they wouldn’t want to lose you the customer. I have had Sirius since they had less than 100,000 subscribers and love the service. In the end you the customer have to decide if you want to buy it or not. I am happy to see them merge. I won’t have to buy 2 services since I like football and baseball. It’s giving me the consumer more. The NAB has spent all kinds of money trying to stop this and bet the senator has some in his pocket. Wonder if he even has Sirius or XM.I am a informed customer who has had the service for a long time. I once owned stock in the company but have long since sold it. I was worried about their long term ability to survive since growth has not been what it could have been without all these Ipods and phones that have music on them now. A merger needs to happen IMO.
Also <A recent newspaper article stated that XM subscribers would have to replace radios to receive transmissions if merger approved. >
Did you call the company and ask them. No you say you saw an article that says this but for you information the NAB has spent millions and millions to twist and distort this merger. That article may have been written by a NAB goon or the author got his information from the NAB. Much like the sugar industry did to try and prevent sugar substitutes from being legal. I want to say I saw somewhere in a filing that the NAB spent 7 million lobbing against this merger and Sirius spent 200,000 even though the NAB says in filings with the DOJ and FCC that satellite radio isn’t a competitor, they list them as competitors in their SEC filings. Then why spend 7 million to prevent this merger. The NAB has lied out both sides of their mouth since this all started. I have seen a lot of disinformation put out by the NAB. They are about as truthful as a car salesman. Ask the senator if he has Sirius or Xm. Bet he don’t even listen. Bet he’s listening to the NAB and the garbage they have churned out. None of which benefits me as the consumer. It’s all about money and who you pay in Washington and the NAB has lots of it and will fight to keep it.
Oh by the way the way oil is going you shouldn’t be so worried about satellite radio merging, Current predictions say oil will be 180 bucks a barrel by 2015.Yeah right I see 180 a barrel happening by 2010 or sooner. What will people do with their subscription when you can’t afford to drive anymore? Fat chance 2 companies survive much less one.

I posted a bit ago and my name is Edwin. As of now it was post # 2, I checked back to see if anyone had replied to what I said and my post was gone. I know it was there before and poof it was gone. Same post that you see above.Seemed someone removed it.
I reposted it with "Seems my post keeps disappearing for some reason. So I will repost it. So much for free speech." At the bottom.
Now I look to see if my post is still here and my post has been altered again with the above quote addition gone. Why are people deleting and editing my post? I didn’t give anyone permission to change what I said. Do they routinely edit or delete peoples posts here. I don’t know since it’s the first time I have posted on this site but other places I post they don’t delete my posts or edit them. Wonder why someone is doing that to my posts. Maybe someone can explain.......

The Exxon Mobil merger took 3 months. You would think that would be considered a monopoly merger. And we have record gas prices. Why are senators opposed to this rather than looking into the oil companies is something that should be investigated. Too bad its senators who launch these investigations.

The merger should be approved. The satellite radios will continue to work and both XM and Sirius will become one big happy family. We, the consumer will benefit in every way. Somebody (probably many) is getting paid off to block the merger. This warrants an investigation.

Who is this senator? Who's in his back pocket? Is this a conflict of interest? Who is lining this senators pocket to say this? This must be the most important merger of all time. This merger between Sirius and XM should of happened six months ago.
This is another reason why we need to vote OUT OF OFFICE all incumbents this November. Because these elected officials are no longer working for the people, there only working for special interests.
