I just want to point out that being acquitted or found not guilty doesn't necessarily mean that person is innocent. lol Think O.J. for example...And, if these people are as scuzzy as some people on here have suggested, shrugs.. well, it's just a matter of time before they act like stupid red neck hicks again. They'll be back in the news.. they can't help themselves...

Once again, you are wrong. Castle Doctrine is not in all states and it's application varies in those that have it. In Tennessee it does not even apply when officers are involved and have Identifies themselves.

I dunno. I read the link you posted and though at face value you are correct, I imagine that piece of the TN code pertains to a law enforcement officer LAWFULLY executing duties of their office/position. I'm not judging either way, but I think the jury was swayed by the implication that the officer who was killed (along with his ride along) may have been there to do more than just serve a warrant or take one or both of the Houston brothers into custoday.

"Custoday" is German for custody. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Yep, I agree. The Castle Doctrine was not a defense. There was a warrant, but the officer may have had other intentions, I don't know. I do know that you cant' use the TN Castle Doctrine as a murder defense unless you meet the criteria. I don't think ole Rocky will get off this easy.

Ok, here is the deal: As has been said NUMEROUS times, this whole incident was completely unfortunate, no doubt. The fact remains, though, that you are dealing with 2 different sides, BOTH very volatile personality traits involved with the Houston's AND with the cops. Anyone that will say that when a badge goes into 90% of the hands of 'bubbas' that there is not an instant Napoleon complex that occurs is FOS. good ole boys who have a badge thrust upon them, more often than not, become total assholes to anyone and everyone except family and friends. Along with a badge, often there is a sense of entitlement and there is usually some over-inflated egos that are born. Likewise, when people like the Houston Bros., rednecks with an axe to grind, are pushed into a corner and made to feel more inferior than their feeble minds already are, all of that testosterone, for lack of a better term, becomes volatile. I truly believe that this could ALL have been avoided!
The two 'officers' that went there that day were warned, if not TOLD, "Don't go! Those boys are 'ready' to rumble". There was no warrant and there was no pressing need to, for lack of a better description, stir shit that day! But, once again, that pesky testosterone kicked in along with that sense of entitlement and I am sure, a bit of Buford Pusser Syndrome. If the two in the police car had just LISTENED and not had THEIR axe to grind as well, none of this would ever have happened I am sure. This is ALL definitely unfortunate and was totally unavoidable. Just goes to show that the more you stir it, the more it stinks. Now 4 families are suffering and no one proved anything other than the fact that NOTHING is ever solved with violence, insolence or conceit. The only thing ANY of this has done is to divide a group of people who were already angry and dejected and to rob children of fathers, grandfathers and futures without judgement of who they are kin to. Next time any of us finds ourselves in a situation where we feel we have something to "prove", I pray that we take time to count to 10 and realize that in the blink of an eye, life as we know it can cease!

Mostly true. There was an arrest warrant for Rocky Houston. Right, though. No one needed to die that day.

Hey fool, can't you read? The reason the officer was there was because there was a felony arrest warrant on Rocky Houston. Read the court record, read the TV news post I put up. You keep saying there was no warrant, buut that does NOT make it true.

Houston said ,we were sitting on the porch with friends and some car drives up shooting at us.I guess the Houstons carry their weapons at all times so they can be ready for the evil law to come gunning for them.Just don't make much sense to me. I believe Houston just got away with murder.

Minuteman-
Hey fool, can YOU read?

"The deputy had NO warrant with him, and prosecutors haven't said why Jones would suddenly decide to go serve it alone."

http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/nov/05/hous...

"Roane County Sheriff David Haggard, who testified at Leon Houston's first trial before coming down with health problems that included throat cancer. Haggard hired Jones, the fallen deputy, gave the order NOT to serve a warrant charging Rocky Houston with failure to appear in court"

Yeah, I can read. It isn't up to the sheriff to decide who to serve, its up to the courts. You said no warrant existed and now you say the sheriff said not to serve it. Which is it? Of course no warrant was found on them. The Houstons were fugitives after ambushing and murdering these two. No telling what happened to anything in the patrol car. Whether they had a warrant physically with them or not, a felony arrest warrant was outstanding. If a person is pulled over for speeding and there is an outstanding warrant when the officer checks, do you think he's going to ask the person to wait there until he goes to get the paperwork? What an idiotic thought. If a warrant for your arrest is outstanding, you can be arrested anytime, period.
