Does this come under the heading of "Stupid Theist Tricks"?

On the whole, I'd take the risk

"Admit cheating or risk eternal damnation:....
"I try to encourage students to be honest and follow business ethics," " How does risking eternal damnation teach 'business ethics'?? Why not 'cheat on a test and risk expulsion'. Some people will just try anything to put religious spin on simple concepts. All in the name of promotion and brainwashing. |

A godbot bears false witness - accusing without proof those who didn't cheat and demanding they sign a paper - and then goes on to judge others instead of letting his mythical "god" judge them.
Like I've always said, the godbots expect everyone else to live by their rules, just not themselves. I take such things to be an insult - pledges, oaths, whatever. I don't need to be threatened or made to spew religious bu**sh** to be gotten to tell the truth. Maybe the religious need their "god" to threaten them into honesty, but that only speaks ill of their character, not mine. |

If there were a god, he would create a hell for no other purpose than to toss the people in it that go around threatening others with it.

Know what's interesting? I read somewhere that "god" created "hell" for the "devil" and "his fallen angels" only. Humans are not supposed to be condemned to it. We're all going to "heaven"...why create "hell" if it's only supposed to be some prison for the "devil" and such? There's gotta be more to it than that...makes absolutely no sense to me. |

Furthermore...if Satan is God's enemy, and they don't like each other...why would Satan comply with God's wishes to punish the souls that reject Jesus? So many questions! So many logical fallacies...gee, I wonder if it's all horsesh*t anyway, and the believers that argue about it amongst each other are all equally ridiculous? |

Yeah, kind of my thought...next time someone expresses concern that I'll go to hell, I'll try to take the conversation in this direction. |

You see with Satan complying comes the idea where it has been said that God created the Devil...I've heard the multiple times. To me if that's the case you might as well say that God is the Devil so in turn that's why he's complied. |

Or? The bible is entirely false-- and Satan is really the good guy, here, and god is the rat-b~stard. After all, Satan is similar to Prometheus, who gave fire to the Greeks. Satan gave Knowledge to humankind-- against god's wishes, who wanted IGNORANT SLAVES, it appears. So, of course, the bible--written by god's followers, of course, would lie about hell and heaven... Read Robert Heinlein's "Job: A Comedy of Justice" for more on this idea. |

Yes, that's another reason why I don't follow links unless they purport to support questionable assertions. The main reason, though, is that if a writer can't take the time to make his/her own points in a forum, the idea isn't worth exploring. I also skip posts simply that are so poorly written that they are painful to read, which includes most posts that go more than eight or ten lines without breaking for a paragraph. One of the surest signs of a poor writer (almost always a poor thinker as well) is the failure to use new paragraphs to begin new ideas and to organize longer works into paragraphs that flow smoothly from one to the next. Poor writers don't deserve to have their works read at all. |

Reminds me of an old joke.
I once prayed for a new bike. Then I realized God doesn't work that way, so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness. Go on cheat and pray for forgiveness. |

The book is quite long. However, if you like Heinlein's writing style, "Job" has it in spades. Even though it's long, I read it through the first time, in a single sit-through. I've re-read it several times since-- it gets a bit down not long after the start, but it picks up later on, and gets quite amusing (I think). The ending is... somewhat similar to endings by Robert Asprin... I think it's stronger than many of Heinlein's endings, though. |

True, that. I also tend to ignore posts written by retards who think "u" is a word, and "4" is a preposition, and so on. Lazy writing strongly implies a lazy mind behind it-- and I've no interest in reading the output of lazy minded individuals. They are likely to be religious anyhow-- after all, what's more lazy-minded than being satisfied with "goddidit"...? :) |

Yep-- christianity, like most religions, does not push for an individual to improve their behavor-- far from it. It rewards bad behavior, because "makeup behavior" is so "rewarding".... When I was in Jr High, I was quite active in fundie-christianity. My group of young people would get "saved" on a weekly basis-- the emotional ups and downs and ups again were very similar to hard drugs*. We did the whole enchilada-- repentance, "forgiveness", re-salvation, and the inevitable "speaking in tongues"**. Yeah-- I was once a "holy roller"....! It's all a sort of group-hypnosis, I've since concluded. Not unlike the "mob psychology" wherein people, within a mob, will follow the crowd, and do things they wouldn't dream of doing on their own. We *are* a social species-- and I think that the instinct to conform to a crowd is quite strong in humans. Especially if you pump-up the emotions with strongly worded, emotional garbage-speak. You know-- straight out of the bible... <eyeroll> In any case? I'm much better, now... and I've not been tempted to follow the crowd for years. :P __________ * or so I'm told-- I never got into hard drugs myself-- when I was young and stupid, I was too chicken. Now I'm old and cautious-- and they have no appeal. |
