The ACLU and all of it's members should be tried for treason then sentenced to life in prison. Never let them ever see the light of day nor ever again have contact with another human being.

I've held two jobs in the past where verification was necessary to employment. Manager of an Assisted Living Facility and Multi-Site Manager of Income Based (gov't) Housing.
D.L, SS card, and Birth Cert.- you might be amazed at how many people are not in this Country legally!

Al Gore did not invent the internet; and he never claimed that he did.

That lie was started, as far as I know, by GOP press-hack Declan McCullagh; and spread by profesional liar Dick Armay.

You idiots have no clue how important the ACLU is. Without them, you would be tried right now for speaking against the current president and sentenced to worse than what you just described.

Stop listening to shock radio host and come back to reality. Back water hicks need a real education....

The ACLU defends people who don't have the $$$ to afford real attorneys. They are the first line of defense against fascism in the USA. Most layers there do work for free too.

Totally.... It was a Lie. Al Gore never said that he personally invented it.... But what he could have said was that the Government invented the internet.... Has anyone ever heard of Darpa.net ???

Federal funding created the first internet.

Not Microsoft.

Yep, and who sponsored, and pushed, and championed the early funding?
Al Gore.

Thanks Al, for All this ->

Well... I'm not too sure about that, as the internet publicly was available in the 80s. But Al and Bill did push for hybrid electric gas powered cars......

It is a rather funny story as to how and why the company to produce the first one was out of Japan.

US car companies are managed by a ton of bratty morons.

Believe it, Gore did.

I was on that early 'public' internet; at, believe it or not, 19.2 kbps. we thought that was fast; compared to 12k.

I remember when Prodigy first acme out; I thought it was so cheesy. Forget sending music or videos. Most everything was ASCII.

Oh man... I can see it. High-Speed internet did need some initial support to get launched in the states. Sadly, we are still about 3 or 4 steps behind the leaders of the world when it comes to high-speed internet still tho.

I was only 8 years old at the time, but I thought Prodigy was the coolest thing ever!!!

If only more people realized the dramatic effect the internet has on the world. Soon, I am predicting REAL democracy will be here. With the internet, using encryption and verification processes, we really can create a system where the people get to vote on the bills in Government.

I doubt the people in power want us to do that though.....

In a March 1999 interview with Wolf Blitzer, Gore said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

At the IPTO, Licklider got Lawrence Roberts to start a project to make a network, and Roberts based the technology on the work of Paul Baran,[4] who had written an exhaustive study for the U.S. Air Force that recommended packet switching (as opposed to circuit switching) to make a network highly robust and survivable. After much work, the first two nodes of what would become the ARPANET were interconnected between UCLA and SRI International (SRI) in Menlo Park, California, on October 29, 1969. The ARPANET was one of the "eve" networks of today's Internet.
Al Gore was only 21 at the time.

True.
And he was probably in Vietnam.

The early 'net, restricted to military and academic researchers, was to share information on related military research projects, as I'm sure you know.

I was on the early, pre-www public internet, and remember the balky file search programs we had to use. I had a few favorites, which I can hardly remember; Archie, and Veronica, and Gopher.

I have worked on and in the switched network for 40 years; and in packet, and other protocols for the last 15 or so. Much of the packet traffic and switched traffic rides over the same high level backbones. You can't beat packet for alternate routing.

As I understand it, Gore dragged congress to help finance the early growth, and research on this public section of the new "internet."
