Local businesses predict tax rebate checks to go for basics and debt
As federal stimulus checks arrive in the mailboxes and bank accounts of many San Mateo County taxpayers, local retailers have their fingers crossed that consumers will open up their billfolds and spend.
It's tough right now for small businesses," said Sofia Neciuk, owner of Swiss Jewelers in San Mateo. "The economy isn't good, and some of my customers have talked about layoffs."
