You are correct. However, I think the larger point though is that The Chronicles of Narnia are still a work of fiction and fantasy. When I first read the books around middle school age, they were just fascinating stories. As a child I had no idea who C.S. Lewis was or his background, or that the stories were intended as religious allegory. In that vein, if I were atheist, I would have no problem with my kids reading the Narnia series. Likewise, if I were Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc., I would have no problem with my kids reading Harry Potter. They are all good stories and do not have to have any deeper meaning than being entertaining. As a parent, I could choose to further explore the meaning of the books (or any book/movie) for the deeper moral meaning, or just let them enjoy them as is. It's not for any religious group or government to decide.
I agree. The Brits seem to enjoy their allegorical and fantasy stories and even music for children. I remember singing something in church that had been composed by Benjamin Britten, again a children's allegory that was just plain weird and no fun to sing at all!

Yes, finally! People are realizing something that I understood when I started reading this series at 9 years old-that a book can only cause harm if you let it, and that magic is not the moral of the story-that kindness, love and sacrifice are. I spent three years convincing my grandma that I know the difference between reality and fiction, and that fiction will not convince me that I'm a witch in reality.

My kids will miss another one. I think they can live without it. I find any religion that is a polar opposite to my own is inappropriate.

Narnia is an allegory, Aslan the Lion represents Jesus (The Lion of Judah). C.S.Lewis, the author, was a former atheist who became a brilliant Christain author. His work is world reknown.

There's some more of that Columbustani Taliban mentality.
A God created by holy imagination that has to be enforced by law and social coercion. Even in real reproductive medicine.
Will the real Jesus please stand up!(maybe real Jesus hates religious people after what they did to him on Passover and he wont have anything to do with them anymore).
Imaginary Jesus just can seem to agree on anything but Hell for all others not of the same imagination. That's the stuff Holy Columbustan is made of.
"With God every imagination is possible".(unless it isnt the RIGHT Proper Jesus imagination). My imagination is holier than your imagination.
Imagine.

It never ceases to amaze me how religious people change the rules to fit their situation. The Pope changes the rules of religion all the time. If I'm not mistaken, I believe even some of the words in the Bible have been recently changed.
With all the many and varied religions in the world, each one's followers claim only their's is the true faith and all the others are not.
Doesn't this seem silly to you? Or chancy, at best? Sort of like the lottery, isn't it?
Give me agnosticism any day!

Jesus is God. And the Holy Spirit is the vessel that comes to man -- thus the Trinity (Father, Son and Spirit) is formed and reveals Himself to the "Harry Potters" of the world.

Satan's greatest deceptions come wrapped in partial truths. They do not need to be promoting the dark arts as being necessary to combat evil.

The Harry Potter series does not need the forgiveness of fundamentalist clergy.
The clergy need to be forgiven for their knee jerk response to something that they knew nothing about.

Sigh...JK Rowling is a Christian woman and I thought that was very evident in the books! Haters gonna hate I suppose. The 'magic' in the books bears absolutely no relation to witchcraft in real life (although the Christian perception of witchcraft also bears to resemblance to the reality). Not allowing your child to read the HP books is just sheer idiocy to me and taking offence where none was intended.

Daily Horoscope for June 3

Virgo

Life catches you unawares today but for once you don't really mind. A friend is likely to ring up with an exciting suggestion or you could receive a spur of the moment invitation that's too good to refuse. An interesting encounter is also on the cards, especially when you're brought together through unusual circumstances.
