I want some closure on this topic. I feel that men operate mechanical devices better than women do- and that includes automobiles. Any opinions out there?

Hmmm...I agree men are better. Until Danica Patrick wins a race..the men will always be better drivers.

Men are about three times more likely to be die in traffic accidents. This is attributed to aggressive driving - which, of course, makes them most excellent candidates for the Indianapolis 500 and other motor speed events. They're fun to watch at demolition derbies as well! Of course, you'd have to drive some pretty curvy mountain roads to get to one of those.;-)

That said, nobody with a cellphone on who is negotiating something, arguing about something, or lost in conversation should be considered a "good" driver.

3 times as more likely to die in accidents because there are 3 times as more men driving than women. No?

Not arguing the fact that men are more aggressive but the gap between aggressive men and women are shrinking.

I do hate the people who talk on cellphones and do other things instead of paying attention. Call me sick but I wish sometimes that they crash into a lightpole. Teach them a lesson.

No, there aren't three times as many men driving. However, they do put more hours on the road than women. Truck drivers account for a lot of the stats and road fatigue plays a role.

I do agree that fatigue is a culprit. So is stupidity.

Got me intrigued now. I'll look for the stats.

i have to second that thought, thats how i feel at times. cant stand seeing all those idiots out there on their cell phone acting like yakking on the phone is the most important thing to do, instead of paying attention to the road.
how many more people have to die because of these as#&^%#@ on the road! why cant the government put a stop to it once and for all!

i do feel my husband is a better driver than me, but i dont think it has anything to do with the sex of a person. he just has a lot more experience on the road than i do, and also he does a lot more driving than i do everyday.

I was driving home from work one day and pulled alongside the sweetest 1970 little black T-Bird convertible. I drive a 71 280 SL, so I couldn't help but notice how pristine and immaculate it was. On Sunset Blvd. in rush hour traffic, we weren't going very fast, but on the third light (side by side), she accelerated through the yellow, and I stopped. When I started up on green and rounded the next curve, I couldn't believe my eyes. A brand new Mercedes sedan had crossed the center line and hit her head on. The door was open, and she was a bloodied mess, and the small child I had not seen before belted into the passenger side was being consoled by a hotel attendant. I was so distraught (clearly, she was badly injured), I couldn't let it go after I got home. If I hadn't braked for the light, it would have been me, because I had been in the outside lane. I called Cedars Sinai, smoozed a nurse and found out that she was stable and would be ok. The guy in the big Mercedes? He was on his cellphone talking, had been at the hospital agonizing and had apologized to all for being distracted. Humm. Bye bye pretty T-bird. It was totaled. But, the little one was fine.

That's why I said that I hoped the idiot talking on the cellphone crashes into a lamppost.
