Just got back from the NBA Game in Toronto. Took my wife to the game for Valentines Day; decided I would take a day off to romance her all day :P -- yes i know its corny but things we boys have to do to keep girls happy. My wife plays and enjoys pickup basketball during my off days on the weekends.
The game here in Canada was essentially Jeremy Lin vs The Toronto Raptors. Linsanity crosses the border! It was CRAZY! It was a sold out crowd. They were reporting it became the largest crowd in the NBA for the shortened season so far.
Anyway, we got pretty good seats and the New York Knicks came back from behind to win because of a flurry of points by Lin near the end, including the decisive game winner leaving just 0.5s!! It was amazing to watch! They are now calling it the Va-LIN-tine's Day Massacre..lol!
And there is something disturbing when the whole Canadian crowd erupts into cheers when Lin's winning shot sinks despite the fact that our home team just lost! Seriously, wtf? My wife and I were jumping in happy hysterics like the rest of the crowd. It was fun! I have never seen Toronto so excited to lose a game. It is likely going to be the front page story on every newspaper in the morning here.
I really am hoping Jeremy Lin's popularity continues and the Linsanity grows. I want that dumb stereotype of Asians not being good at sports to die once and for all. And proof once again that stereotypes are always WRONG! It's a shame there are people that need to perpetuate them -- Jason i am looking at you.
Jeremy still has room for improvement though. He is a turnover machine -- avg 5/game..ouch! And today he had 8 turnovers! But i think its expected since he is just starting out and is playing point guard. It is crazy that he is averaging 27-30ppg for a point guard. That's crazy!
I haven't been this excited about the NBA since the Michael Jordan era.
I think i now have a real reason to get cable in my practice as i deal with patients. Right now all the rooms are wired to broadcast dvds, mp4/avi, and audio mp3s via wifi streaming through a central server so i will have to buy a pci-e tv tuner after subscribing to the cable provider. I think i will get this done on the weekend.
My fingers are crossed this Lin show lasts despite the reality that this win streak will be broken soon and the hype will lose steam.
And to think Jeremy was living on a couch and being undrafted not too long ago.
He now holds the NBA record for most points ever after 1st 5 starts -- beating Shaquille O'Neal and Michael Jordan! So he definitely has talent in there. Give him time!
