Who's Elvis "Pressley"? During his childhood, James Brown earned money by picking cotton and shining shoes. When he was 16 years old, he was convicted of burglarizing cars and armed robbery, and he was sentenced by the court in 1948 to serve 8-to-18 years in a juvenile detention center. In the 1970s, he became addicted to drugs, was arrested, and the IRS attacked his assets. Brown's personal life was marred by several brushes with the law. At the age of 16, was arrested for theft and served 3 years in prison. In 1988, Brown was arrested following a high-speed car chase along the Georgia-South Carolina state border. He was convicted of carrying an unlicensed pistol and assaulting a police officer, along with various drug-related and driving offenses. Although he was sentenced to six years in prison, he was eventually released in 1991 after serving only three years of his sentence. During the 1990s and 2000s, Brown was repeatedly arrested for domestic violence. Adrienne Rodriguez, his third wife, had him arrested four times between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s on charges of assault. In January 2004, Brown was arrested in South Carolina on a domestic violence charge after Tomi Rae Hynie accused him of pushing her to the floor during an argument at their home, where she suffered scratches and bruises to her right arm and hip. Later that year in June 2004, Brown pleaded no contest to the domestic violence incident. James Brown died on December 25, 2006. He will be remembered not for his music, but for abusing drugs and alcohol and hitting his wives. Clip of James Brown high on drugs: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/27/

According to biographer, Tony Douglas, Jackie Wilson was severely addicted to alcohol, amphetamines and cocaine. Moreover, although he had been married to Frida Hood since 1951, Wilson was a notorious womanizer. In fact, singer Patti LaBelle accuses Wilson of attempted sexual assault in her autobiography. The most oft-cited incident, however, occurred when Wilson was shot and wounded by one of his alleged lovers, Juanita Jones, on February 15, 1961. Allegedly, Jones shot Wilson in a jealous rage as he returned to his apartment with another woman, fashion model Harlean Harris, an ex-girlfriend of singer Sam Cooke. In order to protect his reputation, his management concocted a story that Jones was an obsessed fan who threatened to shoot herself, and that Wilson's intervention concluded in his being shot. Astonishingly, the story was accepted, and no charges were brought against Jones. Wilson divorced his wife in 1965, and married Harlean Harris in 1967. Wilson suffered a massive heart attack while playing a show at the in New Jersey on September 29, 1975 falling head-first to the stage. The blow to the head Wilson suffered left him comatose. For the next eight years and four months he was in a vegetative state until his death at age 49. Wilson's medical costs were paid for by Elvis Presley and members of The Spinners. Jackie Wilson died January 21, 1984. He will be remembered not for his music, but for being little more than a womanizer and a druggie.

Say what you will but Elvis made it popular...yes it was white America and yes the other races were not looked up to because of racism. But again Elvis made it popular even if he wasn't the first. Kinda of like America making cars and Japan making it better....I buy Japanese cars Japanese cars, they were far better built than American cars for years...the gap is closing. But same goes for Music..A black musician may have started Rock-n-Roll but Elvis made it well known. I like Chuck Berry and Lil Richard...Some songs they do I like and Some Elvis does I like...But Elvis is King because he made it popular regardless of the reason why.

He only made it popular for white americans!!! He definitely did not make any improvements on the music considering at that time the best musicians were majority black!!!! Thank You!!! You King was never our King!!! We created rocknroll not whites. Next you will be trying to take hip hop!!! I see it coming!!! Whites steal everything!!!!

Take a long hard look at history. The white society has not a brain of their own. They only know how to steal from other races and claim it as their own. While white america was banging their hands, black america was showing the real talent. Again, take a look at your history and tell the TRUTH. This country would not be anything if not for the blood, sweat, and tears of other races other than caucasian.

Ah put down the crack pipe Chicago, Elvis outsold them all put together with millions to spare. Jackson squeals, Brown Haa's and however Wilson is a good singer but not in Elvis league. I know the truth hurts but try and not get so mad about it, Elvis is the greatest singer/entertainer who ever lived bar none. He was the coolest cat in teh alley and had it all the and the looks. Oh i see why you'd be so jealous just as i was writing Elvis' God given talents. You are mad because you are not him! Todays so called singers are not a pimple on Elvis' butt, he had more charisma than all the entertainers rolled into one. Go anywhere in the world and they'll know Elvis Presley. Walk down your street and they will respond James who?, Michael who? Jackie who? It's hard when the cold hard truth hits you right in your ignorant face Chicago but the truth is -ELVIS IS THE GREATEST- you are NOT!

Can you read? I said he made it popular not better...Yes it was and is a race thing, but you can either cry about it(like you are doing) or you can take it for what it is...Have you noticed that Black people have flallen to the wayside when it comes to rock, the white people have continued putting out rock music while blacks gravitated towards Rap, Hip Hop and R&B...WHy is that? Rap isn't even music...Some Hip Hop is ok R&B is good stuff...BUt why did the Balck people abandon Rock(for the most part)? This interplay between Elvis and black people misses the point. Elvis was a great performer, one of the best-who loved black music and said so. He loved Jackie Wilson and talked about how after seeing Wilson perform, he was under the table after the show-and this was after Wilson performed "Don't Be Cruel". In fact, Elvis said at various points that Fats Domino was the King and even put Jackie Wilson up on that latter. One of the first entertainers to show up at Graceland after Elvis died was James Brown. I am black and have always enjoyed Elvis as well as James, Jackie, Marvin Luther and others. The point is, entertainers respect each other for what they can do and the talents they bring. Elvis was respected by his black contemporaries and he respected them. That is all that can be said-no need to bring down one in order to build up the other-These performers never did that nor should we. We should just sit back, and enjoy the great music they gave us while they were here and be thankful that they chose to share their talent.

Well said, probably better than anyone on here. when I was young and asked my father what music he listened to as a teen , he never made any reference to race. I heard many of the artist from that time and never new anything about there race untill a number of years later. They all had talent and in old intervews you can hear their mutual repsect. Seems we should learn from them.
