2 Belgian bishops question priest celibacy, rekindling debate in scandal-hit Catholic church

Why? Why, celibacy? History, in the Latin Rite, presents celibacy as an ideal. The reasons given have little to do with the whole idea of salvation and God's gifting (Grace). A charism, if celibacy is such, is a gift given for service, and does not make one holy. If celibacy is charism then it cannot be mandated...... And on and on! The whole order of Sacrament needs re-examination in the light of both history and Revelation. Priesthood, for instance, is an historical response to need and perception. That priesthood, as considered by the western church leadership, by its very nature has all charism and all authority over charism is at the very most a stretch! Women who preside at the Eucharist? Why not? Women who lead community? Why not? Women or men who are healers by charism acting sacramentally? Definitely not a mandated gift! Who should lead? Also those in need of charism that is not able to be passed on and certainly not able to be mandated!

They think not getting married makes them closer to God. But then they molest boys..

None of it makes sense.

Priests should be allowed to marry. It doesn't make them a less able to care for their flock.
