Sure it hurts to lose players like; Galinari, Felton etc...but they were not really going far. Now with Amare, Carmelo and Bilups other free agents are more likely to sign with the Knicks. The Knicks are young and talented and the future looks great! NY needs to get a big defensive center and a point guard to run the show. Finally there is excitement at the garden.

Starbury wrote: I smell a fart ....... Marbury was the worst kind of fart ever laid. That's right Isiah Thomas stunk the garden up with that load he calls a brain. The Knicks exchanged a group of roll players for a centerpiece all star. Now all we have to do is sign a few more free agents and Knicks will be challenging for a few titles.

As the Knicks really didn't have a future - there was really nothing to lose.
The Dolans know as much about b-ball as the Wilpons do about baseball.

I think they should shit-can D'Antoni and bring in a coach that might actually believe in defense. Then they should pick up Billups option for next year. If it doesn't work out they can always trade him as an expiring contract. I think Billups could continue helping Douglas mature and eventually be the starting point guard. That would enable the Knicks to forget about Chris Paul or Deron Williams and go after what they really need...Dwight Howard. The Knicks, especially Amare and Melo, are soft inside on defense. The Knicks need Howard. Toney Douplas can be a good point guard if given the chance. He may not be great but he can be very good. With Hoawrd in the middle they would be a conference favorite IMHO.

All of you who think the Knicks are on their way to a future filled with championships are ignoring a major point. The Knicks will not be able to afford another “Super Star” like Chris Paul. Anyone who thinks D. Howard will end up in NYC is smoking some serious rock. Howard is going to L.A., guaranteed. He has no desire to join the congested MeloMire show. Howard has the best chance of winning a championship, getting a max contract, and being a movie star on the side in L.A., which he has stated he wants to do. I think some of you Knicks fans think that this is a video game and somehow the Knicks are going to be able to bootleg some Benjamins in the basement of the Garden and bring in a watered down version of the “Redeem Team.” It won’t happen. I would be suppressed if they are even able to land CP3 since they already have Melo and Amare inked to max deals which will tie up the majority of their payroll in the new CBA. Do you really think Chris Paul will settle for 10-11 million a year just to play with the best players to never make it past the conference finals in their career? I doubt it. Miami has shown the “Big 3” doesn’t work when the rest of the team consists of washed up players taken off the clearance rack. Boston’s Big 3 worked because none of them are “Super Stars” at this stage in their career, and they play with a team mentality that allows the rest of the team to contribute at a high level. Those two tatted ball hogs you all have in New York will never allow a team of “roll players” to thrive around them. Even if somehow CP3 ends up there, it will be a 3 man Globetrotters’ show, and the rest of the 9 players will have the best seats in the house, and vacations planned for the second round of the playoffs every year.
