Kevin McHale leaves legacy of flops

My memory of McHale as GM will be that 90% of the time (95% after 1995), whenever he had an either/or choice he made the wrong choice. This includes getting Marbury. While people here thought it was a genius move, I remember several national analysts saying the Wolves would regret bringing in his attitude. Obviously the Milwaukee GM thought Ray Allen was the better player. The Wolves win a title if they keep Allen and are also able to keep Gugliotta (who was partly driven away by Marbury).
Let's not forget McHale let Billups leave to keep Stop-n-Pop (Brandon) as well. Even after the failure to build a title contender in the late 90's, they could have been a contender the last 6-7 years if they kept Billups and traded Brandon.

The last choice McHale made was publicly acting as though being a millionaire NBA Head Coach and traveling first class was a burden when he should have acted excited at getting a chance to repair his reputation by embracing being the coach. If he acted like he wanted the job maybe he would still have the job.

I hope McHale goes back to what he does best (announcing). It would also be great if he spends some time at Williams Arena supporting the Gophers and maybe even helping their big guys become better players.

McHale did to the Wolves what Nanne did to the North Stars.

He may have made some bad decisions but at least his first one got us a franchise player, unlike the rumors coming out right now about moving our franchise player for a cash dump as Kahn's "first big splash". If this goes down I'll quickly be longing for the days of McHale. If it's true he shouldn't be running a basketball team, maybe the promotions department but don't let him anywhere near personel decisons.

Come on rumble hindsight's 20/20, he's been made out to be the scapegoat by the local media and everyone's bought in. He clearly wasn't great but he's no where near as bad as people make him out to be. The last two years especially he has been one of if not the best G.M.'s in the league with cutting the fat, they don't have a single bad contract left on the roster how many NBA teams can say that?

The Marbury thing did work too by the way in case you forgot, but I guess he should have gotten a full Psycho analysis done on a college kid too. Brandon over Billups had very little to do with McHale, he offered him a deal and he wanted to stay but Flip wanted to start Brandon over Billups and all Billups wanted was a starting spot so figure out where you wanna drop the blame between those two quit letting people like Sid Hartman and Bob Sansevere do your thinking for you.

And with the whole not liking to travel for the coaching gig, seems like the media blew that one out of proportion as well because it really seems like he wanted to come back. Not to mention he played a long productive career in a much more brutal NBA than we have today, so I guess personally I can see where his back may have been acting up riding in a plane seat every other day.

What's with all this hot air coming from Mark Madsen all about? All this talk that he's going to miss playing for McHale? The keyword here is 'playing' which Madsen has done very little of over the past five years.

The fact is Mark Madsen is a perfect example of one of McHale's many contractual blunders... lock in a sub-par (at best) player like Madsen to a high paying contract to do nothing but sit on the bench.

The only reason Madsen is crying a river about McHale being ousted is that his own time as a useless bench loafer is coming to an end as well.

Chris, I acknowledge McHale did a good job the last couple years unloading bad contracts, but how does that make the team more competitive and fun to watch. Also who was responsible for the bad contracts (Marko Jaric) to begin with (I admit Taylor probably played a role in the bad contracts).
Sure Flip wanted Brandon as a starter, but McHale was the boss, that's why I said he should have traded Brandon, then Flip would have to start Billups. Don't forget, before the Wolves let Billups go Brandon already had said he wanted to spend the last couple years of his contract as a backup!
As for Marbury, like I said, the night of the draft there were ESPN analysts saying Marbury would want to end up back in New York, this wasn't hindsight on the part, or the Milwaukee GM who traded him for Ray Allen. By the way, how did the Marbury trade work, you mean that one playoff appearance but he went BABY!
By the way, I was trying to be nice, I didn't even get into Josh Howard/Doodi Ebi, Brandon Roy/Randy Foye and Danny Granger/Rashad McCants!

McHale was horrible and should have been fired long ago. He couldn't have wrecked this franchise anymore. Good riddance and be thankful you were being paid to be lousy at what you did.
