Why is it that I'm starting to feel cautiously optimistic about Jim O'Brien and the Pacers?

Because he's trying to do the right things, Brad. This is among the first steps the Pacers will take to try to mend their not-so-hot image. Another big step will be to get them to play hard and as a disciplined squad. I wish them luck.

Maybe Jim O'Brien will be like Dan Hawkins. Hawkins took a moribund and scandal ridden CU Buffalos squad and by sheer force of will changed the entire culture of the squad in less than a year. O'Brien not being Carlisle is going to be a huge step forward.

abc wrote: Did Conseco kick them out or something? O'Brien, if you read the article, wanted this to be the first step towards reintegrating the team into the community. Even if the team is the same in wins and losses, O'Brien is CLEARLY an improvement over Carlisle in demeanor and image.

Bravo!---to the IndianaPacers!----as they in no other way could of selected a more classier area high school than the home of Basketball Coach larry Nicks and the Golden Knights! What a splendid choice of a high school to conduct practice! This great and grand decision by the Pacers has won me over as a fan! thanks again!

It's real easy to take shots at the Pacers given all the recent history ... this story and setting is almost custom-made for haters out there, plent y of comedian material.
This is a good story.

The article forgot to mention the near riot that almost resulted in a building wide lockdown just prior to the event.

So just because a high school is in a rough neighborhood means that the school itself can't be classy? Should we just abandon all those kids since their was a lockdown? I used to have lockdowns at my school, does that mean I am worthless and have no class?

This is the same Coach Nicks that sent his kids to Heritage Christian, instead of going the IPS route. I can't blame him for that.
