Bird is doing the right thing. He's always said that he would make any trade that would make the Pacers better, and he's following through on that pledge. He saw no trade that would compensate the team adequately, and I'll trust his judgement more than the other posters. Trading O'Neal or Tinsley, when their market value is so low, would be foolish.

Bird says, "When you look at our cap, he takes almost a third of our cap and we expect, when you pay a guy what we're paying him, he's got to produce."

Ya think? They should have traded him 2 seasons ago when he still had some value. No team in their right mind is going to take on his 22 mil a year salary. He should feel obligated to give the team back some of those big dollars for not holding up his end of the bargain.

Here's what we do, we draft Butler's Graves, Campbell, Green and Betko. We draft Luke Harangody from Notre Dame and Robbie Hummel from Purdue when their times come. We can get a team that is relatively crime-less, can play great defense, shoot the ball like nobody's business, and a team of local boys the fans can get behind. Shazam, sooner or later we will have a contender again if that approach is taken.

I'd rather see a team we can get behind and root for, than a team full of "athletes" that spend more time getting in trouble and sucking.

Just another case of the white man trying to take the black man down because he has money.

I with the IPS grads 46% guy. Before Bird's tenure we didn't have thugs. And we were competitive/winning most of the time.

Now we've had to endue Artest/Jackson/Tinsley/William s/Daniels etc. and small wonder, we're NOT winning. Portland used to be NBA's home for wayward citizens, now it's Indiana. Why in the world Donnie and the Simons are putting up with this is way beyond me.

Let's get rid of the thugs and get some good citizens. They'll get fan support even if they lose and my bet is that with any luck at all, we'll win because good citizen players are more likely focused on basketball than strip clubs, guns and drugs.

C'mon Larry. Pull the trigger on these guys and let's start fresh with Dunleavy, Murphy, Diener, Rush and company as a core. Cut your losses and learn from this!

Oh, I didn't meant to leave out Danny Granger. He's a big key to our future. What a player!

wow! that's such a great idea because it's REALLY that easy to just DRAFT all of those guys. there is a big difference between the nba draft and college recruiting.
all the haters need to step off. geesh, no wonder sampson cheated...all the pressure to win in the blink of an eye. haven't you ever heard that "good things come to those who wait?"

Take off your rose colored glasses Larry. Jermaine is done for the Pacers he wants to be with Isaiah. Let him go! Get rid of the other trouble makers that are always in trouble with the law. We don't need that kind of riff-raft for "Our Children" to idolize. We need good moral men! We need more Jeff Fosters, Mike Dunleavey's, Troy Murphy's,etc. We really have some good decent men on OUR team and you need to get rid of the dead wood so that they can have some good help.

You need to have a clause in their contracts stating if they get into trouble with the law, then they are gone. If they are hurt and can't play, then they have so long and then they are gone. It is not fair to the other players to carry the load and load sitting on the bench is making 6 or 7 times what they make. That is not fair either. Their wages should ALL be pretty much the same.

Diener was not signed for little money $4MM for 3/4 years ...He was an end of bench guy for a losing team.
That's better than $22mil for SITTING on the bench. You see J.O. out he doesn't seem to have any knee problems. His main thing to do in New York is to see Isaiah.

The Pacers need to upgrade from Bird to a real President. A decent ballplayer doesn't translate into front office success and Bird is a prime example of this. He help create this mess, fire Bird and upgrade the front office.
Perhaps George Bush?
