Daniels and the Vicencios are a joke. Your event was a joke. Everything you ever say is a lie. You are all crooks. You didnt even make any money to line your pockets this weekend. You overcharged the spectators when you advertised $5.00 for adults and 3.00 for students when you actually charged 8.00 and 5.00. What happened to the 76 confirmed out of town teams you advertised? Liars. Did old man Vicencio recruit for El Dorado this weekend? Who did he try to pay off? You have no affiliation with the NCAA and AAU. By the way AAU
will be contacting you shortly. Daniels you are a small time con man learning from old time one
(Vicencio).I think everyone who attended your event realized they made the wrong decision me included. By the way Daniels you need to learn to count. He had no where near 144 teams.

You are a bit right on the community college deal but in many cases it is a stepping stone to get to the next level meaning D1. There are many prominent players that start at the JUCO level and then move up - why dont you do your research before posting. Look at the JUCO transfers on UTEP, UNM, and many many other D1 programs. Another important fact is that if they go the JUCO route school is paid for and education is the ultimate goal. Whether they start at the JUCO level it is paid for and after their JUCO career many go on to play at the D1 or D2 level and schoool is also paid for. You are exactly the BAD thing about El Paso you have the same mentality as many other kids and parents in town. If a student athlete draws interest in sports or academics from major univerisities instead of praising that person you find a reason to bring them down. I have seen this first hand with many many parents and I guess it is rubbing off on others. Stay off this and other posts if you dont have anything good to say about the kids here in El Paso.

LETS TALK ABOUT A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT ARE NOT RIGHT..CHARGING $8 WHEN YOU ADVERTISED $5 IN THE IM BIG ON SPORTS NEWS LETTER WAY OFF. DONT KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER SITES BUT AT HORIZON H.S. THERE WAS NO JUGS OFF WATER PROVIDED FOR THE BENCHES THAT SHOULD BE JUST A COURTESY. YOU MAY SAY BRING YOUR OWN WHICH WE DID ONCE WE WHERE ALLOWED TO BRING IT IN BECAUSE AT FIRST THEY DIDNT ALLOW US TO. THAN TO HAVE YOUR SHIRTS SELLING FOR $5 AND CHARGING $8 TO GET IN AND WATCH 1 GAME LIKE ON FRIDAY AND THAN CHARGE ANOTHER $8 0N SAT AND ANOTHER $8 ON SUNDAY IS OUTRAGEOUS THATS $24 FOR THREE DAYS, RICKY AND VICENCIO THE KINGSWOOD CLASSIC WHICH IS A TOP NOTCH TOURNAMENT CHARGES $15 FOR A 3 DAY PASS. YOU ALL RIPPED OFF ALOT OF SPECTATORS SHAME ON YOU..THAN YOUR RUN CLOCK EVEN AFTER 2MINS LEFT IS A JOKE ALL THE COACHES LAUGHED AT THAT RULE TAKES AWAY FROM A GOOD CLOSE GAME AT THE END WHEN THE CLOCK JUST RUNS OUT. WHICH SHOWS YOU JUST COLLECTED THE MONEY AND GET THE GAMES DONE AND OVER WITH. OH AND BY THE WAY SETTING UP YOUR AZTECS (FLIGHT) IN A CUPCAKE POOL DIDNT HELP THEM ADVANCE!!!LOL

The other bloggers are absolutely correct. This tournament had nothing to do with the kids and everything to do with making money for the sponsors, Vicencio and Associates.$8.00 and $6.00 at the door cost my family more than $84.00 to see my child play 4 games against teams that he plays in the El Paso city league.

The tournament grossly misrepresented itself by keeping your flyers strikingly close to the same as the Southwest Shootout,(which did charge $5 and $3 for spectators) and the tournament I thought my son was playing in. I am blogging here, but my next letters will be to the Better Business Bureau of El Paso, the AAU, and if that does not draw enough attention and some action, I will reach out to other local and national news organizations such as KVIA, KTSM, USA today, CNN, and more.

The sponsors of this tournament should attempt to find a way to give back some of the money that they swindled from parents and families of the kids who played in this tournament. But for me, even that will not get them in my good graces. As far as I'm concerned, this tournament will not happen again.

Paying $8 is not bad! I Pay 10 a day in Vegas and dallas for youth basketball tournaments. I thought it was fare price to charge for a basketball tournament of this caliber. People are use to paying very little for big events. Kids got free T-Shirts! I thank them for that. I paid for 4 adults everyday which was 96.00 and I am not complaining. The level of talent was great. I enjoyed watching the 8u to High Schools Divisions. How many times do you get to see the College Coaches in El Paso recruiting our girls and boys. I have been supporting Im Big On Sports for a long time and I like what they do. They had Kansas University in Town last year recruiting our guys. Couple of weeks ago they had a former Kentucky Assistant Coach training 25 el paso kids. Im Big On Sports has gave adidas phenom camp invites to our kids, get our kids ranked in the states top 100, bring college coaches and former NBA Coaches to El Paso for our kids. My kids are playing basketball to hopefully pay for their education in college.

IM big on sports had nothing to do with these coaches coming down. Daniels claims he sponsored a local team to go to a tournament in CAlifornia. He had nothing to do with it. Please, he does not even have a ajob. What he takes from his weekend league is to pay his rent. Th evicencios will find a way to take him for a ride for what ever little money they made this weekend(if any). Im big on sports has no affiliation with the NCAA AND AAU. tHE ncaa has already called him and The AAU is about to shut him down. Come on EL Paso these guys need to make money off our kids to pay their bills.

Lol Hoops21.Even if Im Big On Sports did not have anything to do with the coaches coming down they was there at his event which benifit my child. I like what Im Big On Sports is doing and for your info my child was apart of those 12 kids that went to cali and it was not a tournAment it was showcase. Im Big On Sports I appreciate the newsletter and your hard dedication to ElPaso before you all there was no exposure for el paso.

Please lets get it straight (Invite to Adidas Phenom Camp)please if you have the money you can send any kid to that camp. If it was a true Invite they would have payed for them to attend to camp. All he gave the kids was a flier.(Kansas University Coach in town) NCAA Division I Coaches are restricted to only attend NCAA certified events and I'm big on sports or Mr. Ricky Daniels has never truly been certified with the NCAA, he is all talk. He expects the people of El Paso to not be able to read between the lines of all the lies that he puts out.(Get our kids ranked in the top 100 of the state) Wow, I thought the state rankings, the kids talent, the teams success, does that and not one man. Lets take a look at Ricky Daniels, Kick out of the Army disability, fired from Raytheon, has never played the game of basketball for an organized team or any organized sports team that I am familiar with. Oh, it sounds like Mr. Ricky Daniels wrote that himself (love and basketball)is this another way of saying that people in El Paso cannot read between the lines.

Gotta love El Paso. Can't even have a tournament without the bickering. Since some of you bloggers know so much, run your own tournament. As always, those of us who are actually involved with the kids will be trying to find ways to get out of here.

HA HA HA HA HA! How can anyone agree that the "Battle @ The Border" was a success?
there have been a lot of rumors. Tooo much to get in, games outside, no score clocks.... But lets all get serious, THIS TOURNAMENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALL ABOUT THE KIDS!!!!!!!
When someone is purely charging that much in order to "line their pockets", should the tournament even deserve the credit of being published in the El PAso Times? No offense to them either because not very many people knew the situation going on with both tournaments.
Truth is, this tournament was only being put on as a fundraiser for the Vicencio and Daniels utility and home bills LOL Not for the kids!
I had the pleasure of speaking to Max Mendivil (the head honcho of the Southwest Shootout) and you can see that his mission is clearly for the kids! None of the money is pocketed people! The entry fees & daily entrance charges are simply there to help pay off the money they are charged for gymnasiums, officials, and score keepers. Everyone you see working at the host hotel & as gym managers, those people are VOLUNTEERS!!!
Next year, the tournament everyone should enter is clearly apparent and no other than the Southwest Shootout. This "Battle @ the Border" WILL NOT take place next year, mark my word.
I hope to see the Vicencios and Ricky Daniels in trouble for all the misfortune they have caused for these youth basketball teams and the youth basketball of El Paso.....

My son played at Battle @ the Border this year and I agree that this group could care less about our kids. I also met Max a few years back and I believe he is doing the right thing. He also coaches kids on Saturday mornings.I think all the youth basketball organizations including the city parks & rec dept. should get together and run IM BIG ON MYSELF out of town.

Truth be told, the Vicencios still owe the city money for using their gyms from years ago. The original Southwest Shootout was started by the Vicencios and Max but the parties had a disagreement and the Vicencios went with the crook Ricky Daniels this year. Vicencio and Daniels attempted to confuse people by calling their tournament the Southwest Battle on the Border. They told teams that their tournament was the Southwest Shootout and confused the heck and of out of town teams. When the two parties split, Max's original southwest shootout was scheduled for last weekend and out of spite Daniles and Vicencio scheduled theirs at the same time.

I’ve been in this city for many years and what I saw take place this weekend was truly unbelievable. Watching the Southwest Shoot staff split was unfortunate but those things happen. It is nice to see that Max and his folks have taken the high road and have not gotten into a pissing contest. The Battle of The Border crew should be ashamed of themselves. Copying everything the Shootout does shows just how classless the Battle of The Border crew has been.

I’m Big on Sports should be called I’m Big on Putting Your Money in My Pocket. I have read several of the blogs and I cannot see anybody in their right mind justifying paying $8 to get in a basketball tournament in El Paso. One of those blogs was written by someone affiliated with the Battle of The Border. Hmm….. All the lies that were told throughout this process have given El Paso a bad name. Numerous coaches from out of town have said they have been taken for ride by the Battle of The Border.

If he has not figured it out yet Rick Rosstien or whatever he is calling himself this week is a puppet for the Vicencios’. Just like now who is getting all the bad publicity….. He runs around telling everyone he has a Masters Degree. Well someone with a Masters should be a lot smarter than to be used in such a way. Also having a Masters does not give you common sense either.

This clown has burned a lot of bridges but there are those whom believe in the bulls@#t that he is feeding them. First of all what is his background as far as having all this knowledge of basketball? Second he says he has change the face of basketball for the El Paso community. I think basketball was here long before he got here. Third that exposure league is another farce. To who are the kids exposed to…..him and his other stooges? As a coach is it really worth cutting cost to play in something that is nonexistent.

It is amazing to see the same teams jump in his tournaments and league. If you are trying to pad your stat and cut cost that is fine but what good are you doing the kids and that is what this is all about. Right….. Having a tournament every month or every other month only says one thing. I am trying to make as much money off of you as I can and my rent is due.

I hope that people will see that there are those whom genuinely care about the kids’ development and not about making money and as far as coaches go padding their stats. Playing the same teams’ week end and week out does nothing. I hope that maybe those who care will unity and put end to this nonsense.

What is wrong with El Paso our teams kick of the tournament season by going to El Paso, our teams have been going for the last ten years and by far this has been the best tournament we have played in el paso.I can tell you that all of those blogs that are been posted are people that put the other tournament. What compation the teams were strong our teams played plenty of games. we have talk to other teams that played in the other tournament and they said it was a water down tournament. Great Job Battle @ The Border. Oh our players got t-shirts coaches got polo shirts and coaching bags.

I don't know who max or mex is but I can tell you I paid 275.00 dollars to play on the shootout and we had to get 2 parents one from each team to reff that was crazy. That has never happened to my teams, now I would pay 375.00 if as long as my kids would have rec. shirts and my asst.and my head coaches shirts and bags and played the kind of teams that my friends teams played.I went to check my friends team play and I see Ronnie Hernandez calling games, I stop and talk to him and he tells me that two days before he was calling the Arizona State game at the NIT tournament an the battle at the border has him calling games, and i have parents calling my games. One thing I say everybody had a choice to pick which tournament you wanted to play in, we are all big boys it just happened that my friend pick the right one and I the wrong one. I say this I will be at the battle at the border next year.
