Chicago Cubs rotation tops in quality starts

Full story: Chicago Tribune

It's easy to take the Cubs ' starting rotation for granted, as it has been amazingly steady the last few years.

Big deal. The bullpen gives them up regularly

I'd like to know how the reporter of this story knows that Alan Trammell or Don Baylor would automatically make the D-Backs an instant contender, while the guy they hired A.J. Hinch can't do it. I understand everyone can have an opinion, but he makes it sound as if he knows this for sure.

The Cubs might lead the league in 6+ innings for their starters; however, with the sorry bullpen they have, i think Pinella's not keeping his starters in long enough, especially when they're pitching well.

What is it with these Cub minor leaguers? Either these magazines that do the ratings of the players are totally clueless, or else the Cubs ruin their players on their rise to the majors. Felix Pie will end up being just another of the many cant miss prospects the rags named, that never even makes a dent in the majors. It amazes me that none of the Cubs minor leaguers ever make any noise at all. However, i've been saying for years and years the Cubs have some of the worse scouts in baseball, and obviously Pie is just another example of this.

Phillie - you really need to stop embarrassing yourself with these "whispers".

A quality start is not just a starting pitcher going 6 innings - it is going 6 innings and giving up 3 or fewer runs. You fail to include that in your "analysis".

Look at Dempster's starts - he has gone 6 innings in all 6 of his starts - yet has given up 3 or fewer runs only 3 times.

Had LP pulled Marshall after 7 innings on Tuesday, the Cub staff would have another quality start added to their league-leading total.

After reading Andy MacFail's comments, I re-read the article. Surely a sportswriter for a major metro daily newspaper knows the criteria for a quality start in MLB! Then again...

How exactly would Don Baylor or Alan Trammel make the Diamondbacks instant contenders? If memory serves, neither has won squat in the past. The guy Arizona should consider bringing back is Bob Brenly.

Yeah, and perhaps then we'll be "blessed" with Ron Santo on television!

Dempster had a quality start today too. How did that turn out after he handed off to the bullpen?

Maybe the Cubs should trade for another starter and move Marshal back to the bullpin.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Scorpio

Don't believe everything you see today and your memory could be playing tricks on you, too. You might remember things in a distorted or false way, through no fault of your own. You may also be reading too much into the situations that are going on around you, making it hard for you to know what's really happening. Try not to make any big decisions today because you simply aren't thinking straight.
