It could have been a worse game to watch on TV. As biased and bad as Milo Hamilton is on radio play-by-play for Houston (mispronouncing Cubs players' names and yacking away on something inane when the crowd is obviously making noise over something important), the Stros TV team is very fair. However, given the fact that STL and the Brewers obviously smell blood and won today, it was depressing to see the Cubs out-hit yet get (easily) outscored by Houston. Let's see if Soriano will be worth even some of his contract by making an impact when he returns next week.

They didn't get outhit. 9 hits to the Astros' 6. Doesn't take away from the fact that 8 of their 9 hits were all as un-clutch as you can get.

Real bumpy patch; but they'll make it through.

At least Zambrano didn't crack a bat over his knee and injure himself.

One thing that is becoming glaringly obvious: they don't walk, then don't win. Nine hits; no walks tonight. E.g.-- Fukudome used to always get on with walks, even when not hitting; now his Ks are up higher than his BBs. As a team they have lost plate-patience. The hitting coach needs to sit them down and read them the rules of the road.
Astros had 6 hits -- but also 6 walks; 12 baserunners. Five walks among their top 4 hitters. Seems like whenever Z starts a game with a walk, he's in for a tougher night than usual.

Yes, Lou, I get gloomy when Chicago Chokers' record in their last 27 games is 12 - 15. The way things are going, that will look great after the next 27 games.

No, Z was too busy putting his bat to good use.

I gotta say it. When the Cubs win and STL and the Brewers lose, this board is filled with premature World Series bravado. These past two nights, when it went the other way, the board is loaded with (again premature) choke, gloom & doom, curses, wait til next year, bla bla bla chatter. What is with this daily bottom lining? It's a long season. Teams get hot, teams cool off, standings change. It's the beauty of 162 games. We'll soon know how it plays out; let's not stoop to empty predictions.

Milo Hamilton!!
Are you serious? Somebody must have dug him up, he used to do the Sox games with Bob Elson back in the 50's. I am surprised he even knows where he is, much less announcing baseball.
Does he still say, when the pitcher pitches the ball, "He kicks and deals!" He was just sickening.
Stick with the Sox
Yeah, he's 80 years old. I remember him well. Didn't he announce for the Cubs as well? In the 80's?

it has been 100 years since the cubs have won a world series. almost 60 years since they have been in one. in those 60 years i can count on my fingers the number of times they have had a winning season. yet there are still some geniuses that think the cubs will even make the playoffs. unbelievable.

ski

since when did you become an expert? there ARE "63'
games left. a lot can happen; & it's not ll bad.
i don't know if you are a CUBS hater (perhaps a white sox fan or a cardinals or brewers fan, eh?)
yes. the CUBS are in trouble, BUT, the cardinals & brewers will lose their share of games also.
time will tell for all of us CUBS fans. all i can say is that if they do fail, every CUBS fan will be deeply hurt & rightfully angry. good night.

You raise a very good point. Cubs fans are a capricious lot.

But I think with very good reason.

If you can tell me that you lived thru the 1962-3 Cubs College of coaches, when they didn't even have a manager, thru the 1966 season, when they were actually in first place at this point in the season, thru 1969 when they were the best team in baseball on paper and suffered a total late season collapse, thru 1984 with that absurd collapse, thru 1988, thru 2000, thru 2003, ad infinitum, ad nauseum -- then I will take your encouraging words seriously.

But having endured that -- I will remain a skeptical, capricious Cubs fan.

I'm older and can take it.

I just worry about the kids who are 10, 12 and 15.

They shouldn't have to be subjected to this.

I am not entirely uncertain that raising your kid to be a Cubs fan shouldn't be considered child abuse and grounds for DCFS investigation.
