Harry Kalas was a decent man who probably told Dallas Green
on the Sandburg deal, Nice Going Big Guy! His temperment and
love of the game will be missed.

Indeed Kalas was a good broadcaster. Apparently a gentleman and very popular with his peers and among fans, especially in Philadelphia. Most learned these facts thru ESPN TV and radio coverage; which to this minute are equating the unfortunate event with the death of a head of state.

Whoa, let's not leave out some love for Marylyn Chambers who passed away also. Now there's a real athlete!

Not many free spirits in the game any more. Pretty unbelievable what the rookie salary was in 1976 -$13,000 compare to what it is now. A lot of good articles on the Bird, I was just a kid than but baseball was hurting quite a bit in areas like Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago with very low attendance at many home games, especially in Aug and Sept.

Too bad Dusty Baker didn't read up on the Bird before trying to work Prior and Wood to death.

Truly a sad day. But why perpetuate myths? He was talking to himself, not the ball.
