Twins' middle infield is still a work in progress

It makes sense for Liriano to pitch if he can since Boston has a lefty heavy lineup. It sounds as if Gardenhire is giving himself a safety valve with the sore throat story if he decides to keep Liriano out Monday.

Plouffe should get every opportunity to stay. Casilla has played second base most of his major league career and looked great there last night. Why Gardenhire wanted to try Casilla at shortstop is still something of a mystery and obviously did both Casilla and the Twins more harm than good. Casilla, however, will have to improve at the plate if he hopes to stick with the team. When Nishioka returns, the Twins will have a lot of infielders aboard, including Tolbert and Hughes. Hopefully, Plouffe can, like Valencia, play well enough to become the Twins starting shortstop.

Dusty Hughes belongs in AAA. The next guy to be seriously evaluated should be Hoey.

I am a little perplexed by the amount of faith placed in Casilla over Hughes for starting 2nd baseman. Hughes seems to be marginalized in the Twins organization while Alexi has gotten what seems at least one too many chances.
So glad for a little momentum for the team and hoping it continues through the weekend.
