Baker helps Olsen cook up rare victory

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Making not only his first start for the Marlins but his first appearance in the majors Wednesday, catcher John Baker can be forgiven for not being fully versed in the franchise's pitching trivialities.

Who was called up to replace Kensing - or are they carrying 24 through the allstar game to cut back on payroll?

Since I couldn't get free to watch the game yesterday, how'd Baker look in a squat?

Also, just noted the article in this section that folks are cutting back on attending sports events since the economy was suffocated by an oil slick. The Marlins say they are monitoring the situation but are planning no new promotions. I'd like to know how they would be able to tell the difference between their usual rotten attendance and their recession era attendance.

Lou - couldn't get clear of meetings and calls yesterday no how. Next week should be easier. Anything of note get said?

I'm so tired of these guys. If this team can't start sweeping other teams it's all over!!! But at least we saw something out of Olsin yesterday. I was ready to give up on him. Why did Freddi take him out after the sixth though????

I wish he would show some faith in his pitchers and let them complete the game. Yeah Insurance runs are nice, but its shows no faith in your starting pitchers when you do that. That is the second time he has done that to Olsen, and Nolasco decision was a disgrace, at least give them a chance in the 9th.

Olsen pitched through the 8th...was taken out for a batter in the bottom of the 8th inning...

lol I love it when you think everyone of your haters is me. Remember, I'm the one from Hollywood??? Or did you forget saying that - I know it was only yesterday when you had that brilliant thought lol.

Your so dumb, dude. I'm sure there are lots of people from all over that can't stand you. I salute them all lol.

I think Olsen and Nolalsco realize the importance of insurance runs. It's happened too many times this year in the late innings the Marlins lost games that should have been won therefore it's imperative the Marlins get as many runs as possible.

Why Question, I'm flattered that you would expend so much energy disliking me. You might even drive 5 minutes to a Ft. Lauderdale library just to disguise your aliases. Ha! I'm not here to be popular, I just enjoy razzing the excellence demanding, pompous, self-absorbed....such as yourself. And I enjoy your responses....keep 'em comin'....

I have often thought that the Marlins must know something we don't about kensing. He was first brought up in '04 as a starter. He stunk then. He is not "young" anymore. Good move. Now go out and get a quality catcher and make a run!!! Hope JJ looks sharp tonight. Get the coffee on it is going to be a late one. Hanley for MVP!!

I'm not hoping for much from JJ for the rest of this season but I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised. Clearly, he's going to have to make some adjustments to avoid hurting himself again. I just hope he's really fit and ready for this.

Bandwagon and Shark, Call me crazy--which you probably have--but I believe you need an aura of toughness as a pitcher to demonstrate confidence. Both Tankersley and Kensing go through that obsessive compulsive rubbing up of every baseball, Kensing does his little stroll, BUT WORST of all may be the look on Miller's face at first sign of trouble--It Is Pitiful. Remindful of a 4 year old having ice cream cone taken away.

Old Gator, Funny as Hell show, sorry you missed it.Had producer ready to give you cell phone number--which I already did in code-- and e-mail address(info people up here would kill for, well at least me) You would have had to know who played the cop in Godfather1 to prove it was you. New question next week that only you can answer. Even discussed the economy--scared the heck out of NASDAQ guy by telling him that GM and Ford's troubles coud have dire consequences for the Left Turn Industry.

Next two nights will tell a lot. Real contenders or flat out pretenders. Mets scare the heck out of me--They are about to go.

Any correlation between my discussion of Misty Treanor being best athlete in the family and the appearance of those pictures??

By the way, Johnson is just slotting into Kensing's place on roster.

If Uggla had been disabled--would not have played a man short for last 8 games--Because I'm betting he still misses 2 more which makes it 10. Wonder what DeAza's ankle looks like??

Lou - yeah, very sorry I missed it. Sometimes, though, real life does take precedence - although I try to keep such moments to a minimum. I've worked hard all my life to be able to live in a fantasy bubble, and I don't take kindly to folks running around here with pins in their hands. But as I said, next week will be fine. I'll be in Knoxville, Tennessee on a purely leisure trip and you own what is nominally my siesta hour.

Okay, so Johnson replaced Kensing. No argument. I was hoping that the other catcher down there might be given a shot. I also got an email from a pal in Cincinnati that the papers there report the Marlins have enquired after a catcher named Ross that they have. You know anything about him?

Freddi didn't take Olson out after the 6th.. He went a full 8 innings and only threw 97 pitches....

I thought he had a better approach at the plate. Hoover swings at too many balls in the dirt.
