I could see giving Schmolz a chance. He needs to get out of Boston.

Padilla, well maybe he could room with Mota on the road. But I think you better ask for Manny's opinion on this trade because he is the one who is going to be retaliated against by opposition pitchers.

"These Dodgers Suck" --- you must lead one pathetic life.

surf_morongo -- worlds biggest Juan Castro fan! ha ha! Another good game by JC last night defensively. I'd give Schmoltz a shot out of the pen. Why not? Padilla....hmmm...he used to dominate the Dodgers if I recall so maybe we should pick him up just so someone else doesn't. I guess he was a cancer in Texas --- not sure we need that.

It will take a colossal meltdown for the Dodgers to lose the division, more than just a poor 5th starter.

There are 48 regular season games left, which means at most about 9 starts by the "5th starter".

Unless the dodgers can get a top of the rotation starter, I don't think it makes sense to go after Smoltz, Padilla, Arroyo, Harden, etc. to try to capture lightening in a bottle. How much better will they actually be than McDonald, Elbert, or Stults?

If they are going to acquire someone, I'd rather it be a hitter ( left handed, preferably) off the bench.

Loretta, Castro, Pierre, and Ausmus have 2 HR's combined on the year.

I can't say I disagree with that. I totally do not trust McDonald although he was pretty awesome last year in that start against the Phils. Oh.......to have Edwin Jackson back!

which is why it is tough to talk about trading someone like Kershaw.

Kershaw is about the same age as Jackson was when he broke in, but Jackson was not nearly as advanced as Kershaw is now (not to mention Kershaw is a lefty).

To me, trading Jackson didn't seem like much of a risk. It would be like trading MacDonald.

But any talk of trading Kershaw is just plain ridiculous. Hey, you never know what can happen. But we have never had a pitcher with as much upside as Kershaw. Of course, Fernando "claimed" to be 20 but we all know he was like 38 years old as a rookie! ha ha! I think he looks younger now.
