Livan Hernandez should get the job. Not because he is good but because he sucked the least.

Isn't it obvious that the Wilpons are broke because of Madoff?

Omar and Jeff Wilpon have to swallow their pride and sign Pedro to a one year deal with incentives. Give him a Smoltz type of deal and be done with it. Another year not in the playoffs and people are going to lose it in Queens!!! It's bad enough the Madoff scandal cost of Manny. Enough is Enough!

After what Pedro did to "earn" his 52 million over the past 4 years, he should offer to pitch for the Mets for the minimum with incentives written in to the deal! I'm not a Mets fan but I certainly agree with their position regarding Pedro!
Personally, I'd put Niese in the #5 spot on the rotation!

Criminy- Minaya signs all kinds of rag-tag leftover bargain-bin scrap heap reclamation projects, why not sign Pedron as possible insurance. None of the flotsam vying for the back end of ther rotation (or bullpen) are any great shakes and inspire any kind of hope or confidence. No way Pedro's got LESS stuff then those border-liners.

Sure does; I guess it went over your head ! His country is the Dominican Republic; he CHOSE to play for THEM and not for the United States during the World Baseball Classic. If he feels so strongly about that paradise on earth then why come HERE to collect a salary playing baseball ? Could it be that the MONEY is better here ? Oh ... just take this country's money and otherwise don't give a hoot about it. NO, I say let him return to his country and ply his trade for Dominican dollars !

Arguable the best pitcher of the past 15 years. Wipe out last year with the injury in his first start then his father's brain tumor and subsequent death.

Not many pitched better in this Intl.tournament. He wants to be here. The key players all want him here and are raving about him. He is a great teammate and fun in the locker room. Livan us basically a .500 pitcher, Niece needs a year in AAA, Garcia is terrible. Minaya gave Redding a guaranteed 2 1/2 million also coming off an injury season and Redding has never had even a decent season. Figueroa? Another AAA pitcher.

Sign Pedro. Give him huge incentives. The better he does the better the team will be, the more he will make. Give him a contract and give him the ball.

I can just see this team struggling with 4 starters and Pedro pitching regularly in LA.

This is a no brainer now. Sign the man.

The Mets won't sign Martinez because that is how this organization operates: Never sign a player whose chances of helping the team are obvious and excellent. Always choose the retread, the castoff, whose chances to contribute are nil. They spend millions upon millions on an injury-riddled player like Castillo and other recycled stiffs but then stubbornly stand pat when the few top-drawer players become available. Never has so much money acquired so little talent. No rhyme, no reason; moves are made for the sake of making a move. Long shots, no shots, these are the signings management offers and it stinks. Championship aspirations? Don't make me laugh.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Taurus

Everything seems to be getting under your skin at the moment, but this is no excuse to lose your temper, and you know it. Better by far to be discreet and plough on steadily, without looking to the left or right. If you keep your feet on the ground and don't get discouraged, there are definitely fair winds that will blow you along. It's just a question of finding the right balance between confidence and commonsense.
