The problem is they got 15 hits and 2 runs! That seems to be the problem all yar with the Dodgers. They have trouble getting people in to score. As for the closer problem, well I think Broxton should go back to the 8th Inning set up role and use Chan Ho Park as the closer until Saito comes back, if he ever does.
Bases loaded with NO OUTS in teh 10th and NO RUNS SCORED??? Come on guys! |

See what happens when you win 4 straight in Dodger Stadium?

Either the writer Tony Jackson is the lamest person in the world, or he is trying to mislead people. The obvious big story of this game was how many runners the Dodgers left on base. They had the bases loaded twice, and didn't get any runs. In the 5th and 6th innings they had a whole lot of players in scoring position and didn't score.

Turn off the gas..........THE DODGERS ARE DONE !!!!

Seriously?!?!?! Do we want to win the West, or are we just being teased again. I was SOOOOOO Pissed when Broxton gave up that trying run in the 9th, couldn't believe they had bases loaded and couldn't get a damn run in in the 10th and then again BROXTON Blows another giving up the 3 run blast for the LOSS!!!!!!!!!! The Dodgers are going to give me a heart attack. Come ON Guys!! We all know you can do it. You woke up when Manny got there but I was at those games you blew in the 9th & 10th in SF and to watch another like that last night?!?!? Oh and in case you hadn't noticed you cant back door in via the Wild Card. YOU HAVE TO WIN THE WEST!!
wow the dodgers are not playoff material
The organization needs to tell that lard ass to lose weight and get in shape. He is obviously not committed to being the best he can be and needs to be shown the door if immediate improvement is not shown.

Why does Torre keep putting Broxton in this position? The Dodgers NEEDED to win with Arizona losing.
Boy, you got that right!! Colletti NEEDS to go. He brings in Maddox for post season play. What did Maddox do on Friday --LOST. Are you kidding me!?! He has done nothing to prepare the Dodgers for post season play. |
Broxton blew the save by letting the Phililes tie it. Johnson blew it by giving up the 3-run HR. They too will give me a heart attack and Colletti doesn't help the Dodgers. He says they got Maddox to help them in the post season. They are 3 games behind Arizona and what did Maddox do on his return to the Dodgers --HE LOST! |
Leaving runners in scoring position has always been a problem for the Dodgers. I hope the Dodger Organization is reading this stuff. |
As much as I hate admit it Joe, I'm with you that the Dodgers are D_O_N_E. Why to go Colletti!!!!!!!! I'm so sick of the Dodgers Organization promising the fans, of whom pay GOOD hard earned money to get to the stadium paying $15 to park, and buying the expensive FOOD and DRINK prices, to bring back a championship to L.A. Maybe it's time to clean house within the organization. What did we as fans ever do to deserve this!?! 1988 was a lifetime ago!! |

Hre's a Post I made recently, on a Dodgers forum, after that debacle in Philly last night:
I am more inclined now more than ever to say Joe may not be the Manager they dreamed of. & granted Broxton is not pitching well at all it is the Manger & Pitching coach who should know this & NOT keep running him out, ESP., when Kuo just pitched a very solid inning ! As I said ad nauseum last night - sorry - but w/ Kuo doing so well, trot him back out there in the 9th & if he starts to get hit, fine, go with another pitcher, but not before & by so doing, he burns another pitcher! If he had Broxton in the 8th & he was going well, then send him out for the 9th; whomever is pitching well as you do NOT have to put Broxton out there, just because he has this loose title of Closer ! I feel he also should have bunted w/ Blake as the game is already running long & even if he fails(a fundamental), then most likely, it costs us but 1 out, not 2, for most ground balls. Again, just because he has hit a few HR's doesn't mean you can't have him bunt - the object is to wwin a game & if that entails your hitter(s) bunting, then so be it ! He had another opportunity earlier to also have a man bunt. In the 5th, Ruiz gets a base hit, he is sacrificed to 2B by Blanton( a SP who never batted in the AL, but he did it - hear this Joe ?!), Rollins K's, & Utley, a LH at the plate. So with 2 outs, you have to walk him, set up a force & have RH Kuroda pitch to a RH Burrell, not a higher average LH Utley. & sure enough, Utley, a very solid hitter singles home Ruiz to tie the score in a very tight game at that point. & the way it was going & ended up, you have to do all you can at that point in the game to keep the 1 run lead. Now would that mean Burrell makes out ? No, but it increases your odds to go w/ the percentages. Again, Joe being reactive & not proactive, as he does when he disdains the bunts! Then you have Chan Ho pitched very well in the 7th wit no hits allowed & a K. Then he brings in Kuo, also pitching well & with Broxton being very shaky, he sends him out in the 9th anyway - "well, he's our closer, so I HAVE to send him out" NO Joe, you don't, you have to manage the pitching as it develops! One, you could have left Kuroda & his 2 hits allowed, in, or should have left Chan Ho, & should have left Kuo in ! Joe, if Ho struggles, then get him out, if Kuo struggles, then get him out - they did NOT struggle & still you burn 2 pitchers & bring in a shaky Broxton! Again, w/ bases loaded & NO outs, Blake has to be told to Bunt - if an AL pitcher can, Blake, an everyday player can surely bunt ! W/ all the runners left in SP to that point, by this woeful team, you HAVE to at least TRY & squeeze out a run, but at worst, stay clear of the DP! The Martin & his warning track power, tries to be a hero, rather then look for a solid base hit to score two And no, these are not isolated situations & results by this team & this manager, these have become commonplace! And with no consistent HR power available to them, they MUST create runs & if that means Blake has to bunt, or even Kent & Manny in a rare situation, then so be it ! |
ADDENDUM: I also lay blame squarely at the crossed feet of our alleged, ahem, GM, Dread Colletti! Outside of Saito & Ethier, & having Theo give us Manny on a platter, he has spent a boatload of cash & has nothing to show for it !
He signs already injured players in Schmidt, Wolf, Loaiza(who has a history of injuries), brings Tomko & his 5 ERA with him 2 years ago,m because "I know him" - Dread, did you not know of his 5 ERA ?! WHile I like Pierra & his work ethic, speed & low K-count, he way over paid for him as he waited far too long & had to get an OF, as the others that were then out there, were not impressed by Dread & his offers. Then same thing this past off season, as he sat on his hands & then No Show Jones & his agent held him up for 36.2 mil another great move Dread ! So while our "GM" did very little, Joe has not doen enough with what he does have & he is spoiled by his former start power team in NY & doesn't seem to know how to A, set a line up & stay with it, B, handle his pitching staff & C, has very little knowledge, apparently, of baseball strategy. Granted, my 11 years as a minor league manager at all levels & 7 years of coaching doesn't stand up to his 26 years, but it's very easy to see what is going on, as well as what is not. That said, Frank MUST hire a legitimate GM & then give Joe one more year to see what he can do with the right mix of players & talent. But after what, 130 games, I am not sold on Joe as a manager of this team. |

Suddenly??????

The problem I have with Broxton is that he has the physical talents to assume the closer role. But he just doesn't (at least up until now) have the same make up mentally. Look, I'm not saying that this is an easy job & he has closed 9 of 11 games for the Dodgers. But if can't get the job done then the Dodgers will have to move him back as the 8th inning set-up man. Chan Ho Park is a good move as well as may be Yhency Brazoban or the most likely candidate Hong-Chih Kuo. Tough choice....

I don't agree with Dallas about bunting with the bases loaded, but I would agree that Torre has managed the bullpen poorly since Siato went down with a sore arm. He should be going with a closer by committee. If Kuo is doing well in the 8th leave him in to start the 9th. Same thing for Broxton. I'm sick of seeing Kent being replaced in the late innings for defensive reasons. Is there one play that Osuna has made that you can say "Kent wouldn't have made that play.....good substitution". However, we have had several games when the bullpen has blown the lead and we go to extra innings with a weak batting line up because our regulars (Kent and Nomar) are not still in the game. At this point in the season every starter should be playing every inning. No days off, no innings off...30 day sprint to the end.

Nednick,
Don't listen to these so called fans. Bring up Puuuw and insert him in center field. He will add spark to the line up. While you're at, put Sweeney at first base and get some reliable clutch hitting there. |
clutch hitting from Sweeney ?! You must mean the other Sweeney, Mike ! As this one has had clutch oppotunities all season long as Joe for some reason none of us know, keeps putting him up there w/ RISP & he is batting what & with how many RBI's ?!

where have u been all year? |
