Normally, taking 2 of 3 in a series is reason to celebrate. However, a season of mediocrity has created the necessity of playing nearly flawless baseball. I'm glad that the Twins are playing in meaningful games in September, that's for sure. Most MLB teams have long since been done. The Tigers are not beyond the team catching up with, so here's to a successful road-trip, the Twins will need it!

Here's hoping the Twins will lose and not interfere with the Vikings schedule.

The Twins made a pretty amazing run this week, considering they only have a half dozen major leaguers on the squad, one of the leading ones out for the season and the rest fill-ins, refugee pick-ups and minor leaguers, and then there is the rag-tag pitching staff. While these players did what they could, Twins general management did next to nothing for two years, unless you consider the trade of an All Star shortstop hitting .325. and a top starting pitcher with 190 innings, 177 K's & ERA of 3.70 for a minor league dud named Delmon.

When Punto is involved in half your run production. There is a 99% chance you have scored two runs or less. Two runs in this league is not going to make it!Bill Smith could have done right with the fan base.He refused!

Why shouldn't they think positive? 3 games back 4 left to play with the Tigers who despite winning this game are playing rather poorly.

The Twins will have to be Road Warriors if they want to win the Central. The White Sox are on life support, the Royals are dead, but playing free and easy. Either of those teams could knock the Twins out of it. It is time for everyone on the team to pitch in to save the season.

This article is another chirpy exercise in groundless positive thinking by Kelsie Smith. "There was will and fire and gumption" on the Twins team after Liriano predictably put them back 6-2. That's good - they had "will and fire and gumption." What they didn't have was "pitching and hitting and consistency."

Three games behind doesn't sound bad, but it's more difficult than one would think.

The Tigers are 9 games over .500, the Twins are 3.

The Twins best this year was Saturday when they were 4 games over .500. With the next 10 games on the road, they won't be any better than 3 games over...probably less!

If the Twins are gonna win this thing, they will have to be better than .500 on the coming road trip. They probably need to win seven games minimum, including at least three of four from Detroit in Motown. coolstandings.com gives them a 21% chance. I think that is about right.

The Twins could have driven a stake through the
hearts of the White Sox and Joe Nathan blew it
for them. Now they could have put the choking
Tigers on the ropes and Scott Baker blows up. These are supposedly their aces. Both have been
weak in big games. I guess we gave up completely
by bringing in Liriano. Why would he be pitching
in a meaningful game after all this time? We just
quit and rested our pitchers for the next series
when we're only 2 runs behind with 3 at bats to go
in the game? Explain that move to me, please, Mr.
Gardenhire...

As long as they have the cool facial hair and chains around their necks, that's all that matters. Who needs a winning team.

If you were listening to the television broadcasters (and believing them), the Liriano move wasn't a "give-up". Bremer made it sound like Liriano was the key to bullpen dominance in the coming two weeks. I see him as a third lefty in the 'pen.
