Maybe they can honor him by presenting him with a corked bat, syringe and a broken boom box!

Derrek Lee doesn't know anything he can't even hit or field anymore. Sammy is a clown.

I cannot think of any Cub whose opinion matters less than Derrek Lee's.

With these comments, we are assured that, much like Sammy's bat, Derek Lee's head is filled with cork.

Are they crazy???? I don't care how many H.R.s a player hits, what he did at the end of that season.......i.e. WALK OUT ON HIS TEAM in the last game of the year is unforgivable!!
Not to mention his self-centered, individualistic, "me, me,me" attitude,
No one in the clubhouse would accept his "leadership" because they could all see through him.... they all knew who he was and what he was about!!
The Cubs, right now need a bat......hey Hendry.....sign him up along with Bozo, Cooky and Wizzo!!

Sure, Sosa belongs in the Hall. His numbers are incredible!!! Sosa alone has had 3-60 home run seasons for a career total of 609. He also had 9 100+ RBI seasons, ending his career with 1,667 RBI's. Those numbers are as good as anyone's in the Hall and better than most!

But he left the last day of 2004 early! And Kerry Wood [possibly] disliked him! And Kerry Wood was injured for so many years that he matters so much more! Sam-Me Steroid (see what I did there?) did nothing but be the face of the franchise and revive the entire sport while giving 100% every day for shitty teams. We fans deserve something better than an all-out nice guy who loves us and makes the game so exciting for years on end! Bring back DeRosa!! He was a real champion who is now DHing his defense is so atrocious!

Derrek Lee should shut up. But we shouldn't! Our comments are so original and enlightening.[Insert platitude about manufactured ideas of selfishness her][Insert cliche heard on the radio about steroids here]

Sammy is Mr. Cub! He should have a statue right in front of Wrigley Chewing Gum Park! He is representative of everything the Cubbies stand for! Booing, not caring about the game and leaving early! A true Cub!

First 1000 fans get a bat made of cork, with Sammy's name on it. Put your arm against the handle, and you get a shot of 'roids.
How's that for honor?

What a bunch of phonies. Sammy became an important marketing tool for the Cubs organization to sell tickets and ad space for so many years. The Cubs organization didn't care if he used steroids or not. He was paid well and he delivered entertainment as expected.
As for the other phonies, the "fans", they loved him when he was hitting the ball onto waveland ave. How soon they forget. What a bunch of phonies. Derrick is right.

Maybe the Sox should honor him instead. He played for them in the pre-steroids era.

There are certain players who belong in the Hall of Fame, regardless of whether they used steroids during the time that it was not against baseball's rules and for which there was no testing.
Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens.
These guys are among the best during the so-called "Steroid Era."
Yes, their records will be tarnished; and, no, their records should not be compared to pre-1988 players. But for the two decades that steroids was pervasive during the steroid era, these and a few others were among the best.
That doesn't mean everyone should rush down to Cooperstown and throw these guys on their shoulders. But these guys were among the best of their time.
And while we're at it; give Pete Rose his due.

You can't hold unproven allegations against Sammy Sosa any more than you can hold them against Lance Armstrong. Did both of them dope? Probably. Can it be proven? Nope. Can you penalize them for your suspicions? Nope.
And let's be honest - they were ALL doping. And they are all still doping.

Listen, everyone. Yes, you there with your hands over your eyes. You too, the one with your hands over your ears.
We all cheered Sammy when he hit homers. We all cheered him when he stole bases. We all gave him curtain calls after hitting home runs. We all paid for the admission to see him play. Sammy was a sight to see. Everyone loved him.
Now, several years later, we reject him. We hate him for corking the bat. We hate him for leaving the last game of a very dismal season working for a dismall manager. We hate him for being quiet.
You know what, he deserves better. He deserves our forgiveness.
We all live in a "look the other way" society which we are all guilty. We knew something was up, but, we all looked the other way.
He gave us a show...and boy did he ever!
Retire 21.
Make peace with our once-hero.

Well, first off I'd like to say 'haha' because it seemed like everyone already knew he retired except him for the last couple of years.
On another note, regardless of whether or not I believe he used steroids or any PEDs, he has not been proven using it. "Proven" is the key word, even when McGwire said he used Andro during 1998 season, Sosa stayed mum on the topic.
The one thing you can put on him is use of the cork bat. His alibi did prove some merit with the x-raying of his other bats and it being true to his story.
This is what makes his election so tricky for the HOF. Everything now is basically up to Baseball Writers. Do you elect him base off his numbers knowing he hasn't been proven guilty or associated with any of the documents related to steroids, don't elect him based off of possible steroid use/ corked bat?
The thing is, if they don't elect him, the HOF is no longer a place where people are inducted off of numbers (b/c no proof of steroids + alibi coincides with story), and if they do elect him, the HOF could possibly be tarnished.

Also, on another note, Gaylord Perry admitted he cheated also, yet he's in the HOF.
Even Rogers Hornsby, regarded as the best 2nd baseman of all-time and in the HOF, wrote an article "You’ve Got to Cheat to Win," in which he claims that he has cheated and has seen cheating in almost every game in which he played.
As far as the Cubs honoring him, I really don't know. Afterall he did have those scuffles with management, HOWEVER, the Cubs organization profitted off that man immensely during his seasons as a Cub. He does deserve something, maybe not now, but one day.
As far as my opinion, he deserves the Hall based on his numbers until something has proven he used PEDs. Otherwise, the whole process of being elected becomes basically a joke and biased.
