3 more unearned runs to go along with 19 hits to the powerhouse Royals. Well, it's easy to see the better team won. Not counting the 14 from today, the Sox are now 13th in the Al and 28th overall in team ERA post June. It Is Over. No pitching. No Defense. No hitting. Watch out for Detroit.

The ChiSox have plenty of time to rebound. Yes, the ChiSox have played over their heads this year: but the Twins have played wwwaaayyyy over their heads. If both teams come down to reality, then the ChiSox will come out ahead. The bigger concern should be Detroit, which has played wwwaayyy under their heads. However, I really think that they've dug too deep a hole. My biggest concern for the ChiSox is that Ozzie will lose his head and try some really crazy lineups to "jump start" the team.

Well it took a lot longer than anticipated but the Sox are finally playing to their talent level. The pitching had a great run but it's over. Now KW can start planning for next year without Griffey, Thome and maybe Konerko. Too bad the swoon started now and not two weeks ago; they could have been sellers instead of foolishly selling off more youth.

When are these Kansas City Royals going to start getting some love? The Sox, on the other hand, have been playing above their heads all year. They are a patchwork team, consisting of a patchwork lineup, patchwork starters, and pathwork relievers. As it is, because the Division is not as strong as once believed, they have a chance at the post-season. But it will take better effort by the everyday players and better managing than we have seen lately.

You can put it on the board - 2nd place. 3rd place to follow!

Ugly! Wow. Glad that road trip is over. 4-6 was not very good. Detroit lost to Tampa Bay. The Sox are trying to imitate Detroit pitching. That's the way baseball goes. Not trying to make excuses for the recent terrible pitching, but sometimes it is unexplainable. Baseball from HS on is a game of failure. Teams have streaks where they are unbeatable. Then just the opposite. I played college baseball and have coached some pretty darn good HS teams over the last 25 years. Even good teams just go through times of utter failure. At the major league level, I am told the difference between winning and losing is small because they are all professionals and the very best at what they do. I have learned to not get too high or too low after a single particular game or series when coaching. I fight to be that way as a White Sox fan. Going into 2nd place is symbolic. A half a game with around 50 left is nothing. Going this far into the season in first place shows that the Sox will be there to the end. Maybe relinquishing the lead for a while will help. Bck away, regroup and continue on the best won-lost record at home while Minnesota goes on the road where they are bad just like the Sox. Still, the last 2 days were ugly!

Twins Liriano,6 innings, 3 hits,0 runs. The best pitcher in the division is back just in time to put the Twins over the top. Sound Pitching. Strong Defense. Contact hitting team. There is no reason to think the Sox deserve to be in it with the Twins. NONE

I love these bandwagon Twins fans cocking off now that they finally get a lead. It only took until August. These posters are posers. I have had some nice conversations with real baseball people and Twins fans for a long time on the Star Tribune site. They would simply know from experience that it's not over till it's over. If the Sox regain the lead with a good homestand, the Twins posers will be gone. Too many inexperienced, non baseball people posting on here lately. That is to be expected. Got my tickets ready for some ball at the Cell! Go Sox!

To Ourtrue... Agreed. I always tell my HS athletes: The teams that catch and throw the ball the best will usually win. And you are right, even at the MLB level. We'll see what happens. Let the pennant fight begin.

Ugly game in every way. All the weaknesses fans have been worrying about all season came to light. I hope that Buehrle gets his head together and that Contreras returns to form when he comes back from the DL. And it'd be nice if Javvy starting playing to his potential.
Yea, we're a half game back now, but there are still 52 games left to play. Anything can happen. Keep the faith. Go White Sox!

Let's see, a drunken fan from Alsip and his kid beat up the Royals first base coach at Comiskey Park a few years ago and now there's a bench-clearing brawl in Royals Stadium. Maybe the variation of the old joke ought to be that "we went to a Sox and Royals fight and a baseball game broke out."

There are a variety of opinions in the world. My opinion: Sox are the better team and time will show that. Like Hardliner said and I agree: The Sox will win the division. The problem is how far do we go in the playoffs? That will be interesting. GO SOX!

Given the probable AL playoff teams, it is about one in eight that they win it all; one in four that they win the pennant; one in four that they lose the ALCS, one in two that they get beat in the first round. As the ChiSox showed in 2000, it is possible to lose to a somewhat worse team right away, and as they showed in 2005, it is possible to beat a somewhat better team. The differences just are not great enough to really play out over 5 or 7 games.
