I think Kerry Wood was just trying to help his old team out.

4 walkoff wins in a row. Lord have mercy they are nerve racking. But I'll take a win any way I can get one the way things have gone lately. Team is hitting some, pitching fairly well and Lee is on fire. I don't care what you think about him, a 17 game hitting streak and his power numbers are heading in the right direction. Milwaukee currently losing, hope it stays that way. Good win guys.

First of all, thanks Kerry for all of the great years here.
Second, thanks for reminding us that the Cubs were not crazy to not keep you. |

thats win 66 that Wood has received for the Cubs. Nice going Kerry. they got Wood.

Yeah

Nice to know Kerry can still help the team out.

Great come back win for the Cubs, just wish that would not have happened to Woody.

Can the Wood and "the great white hype" DeRosa love die yet? Maybe for a week? A day? "My 2009 Cub team" is going to be fine without them...please let the love go fellow Cub fans! Is that a lot to ask!? I hope not cuz I am still looking for a WS championship and neither of them brought me that!!

I feel bad for Woody...2 blown saves and a loss in 2 days. He would have been out of the inning sooner had the catcher not thrown the ball to right field.
I agree, plus that was not completely his fault. If Shoppach doesn't throw that ball to center field they keep Kosuke at second with one out and our two weakest hitters up. Btw, is anyone else sick of WGN going to the behind-the-plate camera on pivotal pitches? I don't live in Chicago so I don't know if CSN does it, but I don't know what the viewer gains from that camera angle. |

Great win. But Soriano is still missing. Last two days saw a few comments saying he is back. No way.
15 games in June. 68 at bats only 10 hits for a .147 avg. Only 7 runs and 5 RBIs. Bench him and find a new lead off man while he is out. |

Are we seeing a resurgence of Derrick Lee?

I am very happy with this win, though I hate to see it happen because of Kerry Wood. But these relievers and their continued
walks are just driving me nuts. What does Rothschild have to say about those???? |
Josh in Kenosha..
Granted, I was in and out in this game, so maybe I missed this. I watched on WGN in GA, and I dont recall seeing any behind the plate views. |

Yeah baby! How about them Cub's?? They are just refusing to lose lately, despite the bull-pen. I had to go when the game was tied at 4-4. but I knew when I came back they were going to win it.And they did,Again! This is what we have needed to get us out of this Funk. Keep it going Cubbies! GO CUBS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!
I agree the amount of walks given from our bull-pen is unbelievable!! They loaded the bases with walks 2 innings in a row & walked in a run on another walk?? These guys need to start throwing more on the side at throwing Strikes for crying out loud! Rothchild bothers me,I dont think he is very good. He has had good pitchers to make him look good. I thought he should have pulled Marmol before he walked in a run. Rothschild has the resources to work with these guys on their pitching?? He just sits back eating his sunflower seeds. I can see an improvement since the Cubs changed pitching coaches, much better now with Von. GO CUBS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPIONS!! |
Once again, Soriano throws an 0 fer out there[0-5]..When will Lou have the guts to move this guy down in the lineup, or on the bench? The cubs wouldn't need to go 13 innings if they had a leadoff hitter who could get on base.
I think it's great that Soriano is CAPABLE of hitting the ball a long way. But that isn't the job of a leadoff guy. He's supposed to get on any way possible to set up the big guys. Until Lou (or Soriano) understands that, the cubbies may continue to need late inning comebacks or rallies. |
Well, Brewers lose, now the Cubs are tied in the loss column. All this despite how bad they've looked... not exactly brilliant in the last five games either, despite the four walk-off wins. How about scoring some runs early and getting Wells his first win tomorrow?
As for pulling Marmol early, I don't agree. He came in with the bases loaded, remember. Giving up one run is all right in that situation, and sadly it's not like the Cubs have another guy in the bullpen who can get people out. It's no good brining in a guy who won't walk a hitter if the result is a GS.
All that said, the walks are a disgrace. Especially those happening with bases empty. re: Soriano, he's clearly in a slump. I'd like to see some sabermetrics on different types of lead-off hitting before I agree that a "proto-typical" lead-off hitter is in fact, a good lead-off hitter. The traditional thing to do isn't always the right thing to do (although it may well be in this case, I simply don't know - would be curious to find out). |
