All good things must come to an end. It breaks my heart to say this but sell off everything from the funnel cake machine to Bobby Jenks! Just kidding. I'll take a 5-2 road trip every time out. Now to come home and win the Cleveland series and get some rest. The second half looks to be a lot of fun, bring it on!

Hardliner,
That's what I say, it's tough to see Minnesota pass us up again, but what the heck, they held down Detroit, so we are only 2 1/2 out, so I hope we can get it together against the Indians and then sweep Minnesota.
I was all set to watch the Sox on WGN today, and wouldn't you know it, here they came, and I missed all but the last two innings, so I never really know what happens in these
games, but in the case of the last two, I guess it is just as well.
I watch CBS scoreboard on the computer and I noticed the other night that the Royals were throwing a lot of change ups at Beckham, but it didn't seem to bother him.

STICK WITH THE SOX
I totally forgot about the Minnesota series so let me offer a correction on my original post. Lets have them come home take care of business against Cleveland and excercise some deamons in Minnesota. Then they can have some rest!

Way to go Mark Buehrle with the All Star nod! What a true champion with the ring to back it up!

I was afraid of this...two total uninspired games against the lowly Royals...........Thome, once again has disappeared. Ramirez, once again, couldn't make the play.

Another outstanding start by Clayton Richard! 3.2 innings. Wow! And four earned runs given up! Wow! It is at this point after every Clayton Richard start that I scream, HE'S NOT A STARTING PITCHER!!! If the Sox really want him to be a starter there's this place called, "Charlotte". Let him learn there.

Also, after every Clayton Richard start I scream that little used '07 first round draft pick Aaron Poreda SHOULD BE THE FIFTH STARTER!!! Poreda has only pitched six innings in just under a month at the majors. Six! Jeez, you would think that a guy who has a mid 90's fastball, excellent slider, hasn't given up an earned run at the major league level yet, averages more than one strike out per inning, averages less than one hit per inning and has .227 baa would get more of a chance. But Nooooo! He has pitched so few innings that I don't know if he could start at this point.

Where did Bartolo Colon go? He's been on the 15 day DL for over a month now. Did he get lost? Jimmy Gobble... YOU ARE IN KANSAS NOW! And stay there!

The Sox are a 500 team at best this year. The second half of the schedule is much tougher than the first. They remain a team with poor defense, pitchers who cannot hold runners on first, a catcher who has trouble throwing out basestealers, too many hitters who swing for home runs, and a crazy manager. It's definitely wait until next year.

7-3 in their last 10, 2.5 games out on July 5th, a pitching staff in the top 3 in the A.L., just beat Greinke and Lee, a possible "pickup" that almost won the MVP last season for "free", the TCQ: Looks like a team that possibly could battle to repeat as Division Champs. Just an opinion.

Good road trip for the White Sox, have to give them credit. Not impressive against the Royals, but overall very good. Three more easy games against Cleveland, then we see if the Sox are buyers or sellers.

You guys suck! You can't even beat the pathetic Royals. Meanwhile, we crushed Milwaukee this weekend.

Seriously, pack up and move to Portland or something. Nobody gives a sht about you here or anywhere else for that matter.

Bulldoze US Smellular field, voted WORST stadium in all of MLB. What a dump, nobody wants to play in that dump or for a classless organization like the SUXXXXX.

AAAL Central-Most pathetic division in baseball. Too bad 3 teams from the AL East can't go to the postseason, cause none of the AAAL Central deserve to go to the postseason.

Sox are mediocre. IF CQ comes back healthy, they can be a little better than mediocre, but that is a big if.

Meanwhile the Cubs arrow is pointing up. Looks like with the return of Ramirez and some new talent (Fox, Blanco, Fuld) this team could make a serious run in 2009.

In any case, even if it does not work out in 2009 the Cubs for the first time in the modern era will have an owner that cares more about winning than making money. The Ricketts family already has plenty of money, I'm sure of that.

Therefore I expect them to continue to spend, spend, spend on the Cubs. This has not consistently been the case during the 101 year drought.

This consistency in spending and pursuing a winner will likely pay off. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but soon. Maybe multiple times over the next decade.

Brace yourselves, Sox fans! CUBS DYNASTY IS COMING. I REPEAT: CUBS DYNASTY IS COMING.

Let me get this straight, the Sox are rebuilding on the fly infusing young talent into the mix while giving them valuable experience in the chase for a division title. They have a plethora of talent in the minors waiting to come in the next two years. When the 2009 season ends the Sox will have only 45 Million dollars committed in contracts, which gives them huge flexibility in filling in the holes around their young core. They probably won’t get him but you watch the Sox are going to make a serious bid for the hot shot lefty that just defected from Cuba. They have established a great relationship with the people that broker the Cuban players and it would be just like Kenny Williams to swing and miss on Peavey only to end up with the best pitching prospect of the decade.

The Cubs on the other hand? Absolutely buried in debt with huge contracts on past their prime veteran players that nobody in their right mind would trade for even the Yankees. Your new owner who you erroneously claimed has so much money he doesn’t know what to do with it had to go out and solicit investors like Bill Murray to just come up with enough cash to make the deal happen. The credit markets are shot and the value of the building and team has plummeted. The only thing this guy is going to be able to do is ride out the bad debt created by Jim Hendry and wait for the economy to turn around while the Cubs continue to add to their streak of 101 years without a World Series Championship. You are correct though the Cubs are a dynasty, a losing one.

i'm no sox fan but what kind of stupid statistics is gonzalez citing?

"Richard is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in four starts when pitching at least six innings. Richard fell to 0-6 with an 8.23 ERA in 12 career starts that lasted less than six innings."

Duh. OF COURSE if a pitcher lasts less than 6 innings, his record and ERA is going to be garbage....that's the reason pitchers don't last 6 innings: b/c they're giving up runs like cheap pantyhose. And OF COURSE if a pitcher goes at least six innings, their record and ERA are going to be good. What else are you going to tell us, Mark?... that if the team pitches well, hits well and plays good defense, they have a good chance of winning?

no wonder newspapers don't sell anymore. who wants to pay for this kind of crappy sports journalism?

Calling up a couple minor league players who have potential is "rebuilding on the fly"? In that case, the Cubs are "Rebuilding on the Fly" too, with Fox, Fuld, and Blanco. Not to mention Randy Wells.

The only really bad contract the Cubs are stuck with is Soriano. Bradley is only 3 years and he will get better, and Fukudome is actually producing and is a good enough defender to justify his pay.

The Sox may not be burdened with many veteran contracts, but they are also not blessed with anywhere near the revenue potential that the Cubs have. Wrigley field is full day in and day out, and tv sets are tuned in, to a much larger extent than is the case for the White Sox. You can argue all you want that the majority of those fans are gay frat boys, or drunk party goers, or what EVER, but it doesn't matter, their money spends the same. The key points are
1. Ricketts wants to win. He's a fan first and he has enough _personal_ wealth that he doesn't need to make decisions the same way as a corporation would
2. The team generates enough revenue to overcome the Soriano contract and be competetive in free agent signings for years to come.

I don't expect you to like it - just consider this fair warning. The CUBS DYNASTY IS COMING. MULTIPLE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE WON OVER THE NEXT 15 YEARS.

REPEAT: CUBS DYNASTY IS COMING

You realize that other than Eliot Asinov you are probably the only person who thinks about 1919? It has become your mantra and an irrelevant un-clever one at that. 1919 and 1908 are meaningless to me. 2005 on the other hand is vivid in my memory as I bet 2003, 2007 and 2008 are for you. Those are the dates in history that matter now.

Do you realize how many times I have heard your same delusion recited over the years? The names, dates and circumstances change but the results on the field never do. Maybe it's time for you to consider therapy?
