do it...sox will never catch detroit...they have a better offense, better rotation, better defense, and a comparable bullpen...

Tell the Giants to shove it.

It's a tough call. On one hand Dye is a great player, a great presence in the clubhouse and a great ambassador for the team. On the other hand, he's getting weaker in the field, nearing the downside of his career and has a history of injuries (although quite fluky).
The Sox are a talented team, but in all honesty probably not much more than a 1 and done playoff team like last year. If offered an impressive package of prospects from a good farm system (which the Giants have), KW might have to take the deal. The Sox have an abundance of top prospects coming up through the system that could make them highly regarded competitors for the next 5 years. |

Barely, No, Yes, and not even close. Detroit is not running away with the division, they don't have the arms. |
The Sox can still win the division. I think the team should hold onto Dye. Another "White Flag trade" while the team is only a few games out of first would kill the morale of Sox fans.
Keep Dye...ride out the season...white flag trades do nothing.

The rest of MLB is laughing at the Cubs.
How about Zambrano for a Brewer sausage? Soriano for a Cardinal bird dropping? Bradley for a Pirate parrot? Do not blame Hendry. He was not counting on those chokers to have choked three times under his realm. |

The Sox are in a good place right now because the players they needed to produce for trade purposes have. If another 3 weeks pass and they are treading water at the .500 mark its time to fleece some talent from the desperate contenders with 2011 and beyond in mind.
Don't do it, Dye has another few great years left in him.
But the Sox don't have the 12 million per year it will cost them nor should they find it. Jermaine Dye was one of the best signings in Williams tenure as GM, you don't want to ruin that legacy by hanging onto him too long at the expense of youth. The Sox play their last 12 games before the break against A.L. Central teams 9 of them against Cleveland and K.C. the final three against Minnesota. The Sox are at .500 right now, if they don't go at least 9-3 to finish the first half at 6 games over .500 the team dosn't deserve to be kept together. |

Your crazy. The Sox Rotaion is back now. They are much better than Detroits. The Pen is ceratainly as good and the O" is right there. JD is a Huge part of that. KEEP JD UNLESS SF gets stupid and throws a few very young, good pitchers there way. |
OH, not too mention, we play Detroit really well and we are only 4 games back in June. The Sox can and will easily catch them.

Glad we won but what the hell is is wrong with this picture:
Floyd faces 28 batters and gives up 0 runs. Bullpen faces 7 and gives up 3 runs. I wonder what Thornton and Dotel would do to my car if I let them borrow it? |

If the Sox don't trade JD I would like to see them pick up his option for next year and have him the full time DH.
Move "The" Carlos Quentin to rf and keep Scotty Pods in lf . BA and whoever can battle it out for cf until Jordan Danks is ready. Then in 2011 Paulie can take over the DH role and Brandon Allen slides into the Sox full time first bagger. |

This short run against weak NL teams is not going to keep the Sox from moving players in the near future. Whats the surprise about trading Dye if it happens? They have been trying to trade him since last winter! Just got back from Vegas and there is no sentiment from the oddsmakers with the Sox now at sixty to one to win the world series, up from thirty to one from opening day. It will look like a completely different team next year.
you get youth with the 2 picks that He'll create when he is signed next year as a FA. If Kenny wants to trade Dye, go ahead - but Kenny is going to expect at least a player that is ready next year, and then a top prospect... |
I'd probably say that Dye has been THE most productive player on the white Sox over his stay on the southside. granted he isn't always at the very top of the list every year, but has never been below 2 or 3 any season.
With that said, I'd like to see what the sox would get in return, it would have to be someone(s) pretty valuable. |
Once the fire sale begins, this is the best they could offer, seriously!
Unless blown away with a CF and pitching prospect, you keep Dye and make him the DH next year. Whoever said the Sox don't have the $12M to do it isn't paying attention to almost-$60M that will be off the books between last winter and this winter. That's half the payroll of the team gone. They can pick up Jermaine's option with ease. Trade Dotel for a prospect.
