Full story: Chicago Tribune

In the midst of his strikeout-riddled slump last Thursday, White Sox designated hitter Jim Thome expressed his preference to face left-handers to help him pull out of his rut.

Fair enough job by Richards and the bullpen. Why in heck didn't Ozzie pinch hit for Mr. Automatic Out Lillyliver in the seventh with the bags loaded? Could have batted AJ and substituted Alexei in CF. But no, he sticks with the 0.159 hitter. Alexei is going to end up in CF anyway if Nix continues to hit. Lillyliver and Pod Person are atrocious out there.

Team wins, you complain.

Season is way too long to be that negative.

Agree with from far south side .Lillibridge couldn't hit my pitching, the kid is not MLB ready at least offensively. Between LillIbridge & Fields both have k'd roughly 1 of every 3 at bats. Not good since Fields has only two homers & Lillibridge only homer probably was in little league someplace.Thome came up huge, Miller had good all around game & Nix showed why he should start everyday either third or short.Walker still needs to walk. Sox still need Floyd,Colon & who ever ends up taking Jose's spot to step up. Richard a better option than Jose was but he's hardly impressive.

(AT the risk of sounding like a front-runner)
When this team hits, they look like a contenda,
When this team doesn't hit they look old and slow.

I predict an "Implosion" By Ozzie before the all-star break.

Finally, the Sox have gone back to swinging for the fences. It worked last month and it will work now and they will be as exciting as the 47' Yankees.
One other thing. A week ago, as most of you know, I got an e mail from the queen, who happened to be in Masillon, Ohio at the time, and she said since there were estates in Mulberry, in England, that for $1.98 plus $25.00 shipping and handling (cash only) that she would make me a Knight, I sent the money, and she sent me the certificate, suitable for framing, and for an extra $5.00 she made Lou a squire.
So, my point is, when ever you address me say, "SIR DRAGON" not just plain "Dragon", like some of you peons have been doing - "The Member".
Look at it like this, The Beatles are Knights, would you call Ringo Starr, just "Ringo" if you met him? Of course not, you would call him "SIR RINGO" so please show me the same courtesy.
Just in case Lou gets on this computer when I'm not looking, well, you can call him "SQUIRE LOU".
Now doesn't that all make sense? So do it!

Or as your late favorite Bob Elson would narrate: Swing... And there's a long poke... It's way back there... It's gone! A home run.

I'm happy for Jim. I hope he hits 600 dingers before he hangs up his spikes. And I hope he gets elected to the HOF, though I suspect he will wear the Cleveland cap on his plaque, just like Fisk wears that Boston "B" for posterity.

I guess the "Big Hurt" Frank Thomas has been retired by circumstances (lack of any contract offers). I look forward to his induction into the Hall, where he should wear a Sox cap for all time.

And, I'd rather not hear any more bellyaching about Ron Santo being unfairly deprived of election to the Hall. There are many other players far more deserving than him that never got in.

Just living in the past... cuz it's much larger than my future at this point in time.

Once every 3 weeks Thome has a game like this, which is good because if he didn't he would be hitting about a $1.25.

I am in complete agreement with you. What did people expect out of this season the 1927 Yankees? This is the closest Kenny Williams will allow himself to get to a full blown and acknowledged rebuilding year. The only reason Dye wasn’t traded was because of the recession. If they fade from contention as the season goes on rest assured Dye will be traded to a contender along with Konerko who will waive his no trade clause to allow it.

In the meantime they still have enough talent to win this division and if they don’t I certainly am not going to spend the BEST four months of weather in Chicago lamenting their every disappointment. Enjoy the season for what it is, the Chicago summer and the fact that the Sox finally have players in the minors that will make it to the big leagues and contribute down the road.

I don't think any reasonable person expected this team to be very good this year, but even if they stay in the race, they are only doing it because of a very bad division, just like last year. I don't see what good that does. While I agree that it is a rebuilding year and that much of the current roster will be eradicated soon enough, to me the farm looks as if it holds few promises. Beckham should/could be decent, although locals are putting as much stock in him as they were on Joey Borchard a few years ago. Beckham now is hitting around .300 in double A and is his leagues lowest rated fielder at his position, he has some nice power numbers and may be fine, but.......take a look, there's something about 8th picks that never works out. What else is there? Poreda has one pitch still that can be thrown for a strike, he's still a Kyle Farnsworth wannabe and is showing nothing to disprove his detractors, nothing. The cuban 3rd baseman is fat and very undisciplined, the 6'5 catcher with a surgically repaired knee who says he no longer takes steroids may one day develop into a DH? Marquez was/is and will most likely always be a AAA/AAAA pitcher........
My point is that although Kenny desperately needed to trade away anything he had to rebuild the worst farm system in the majors, it looks like he did a really bad job at it. Perhaps, as you state, he is not done, but if he doesn't get better at what he does, this team will be down for years and even a crap division won't hide that from most fans.
Sox fans are well known for not showing up when the team isn't good, JR often publicly states he will spend after they show up, this has all the potential of turning into a stalemate for years to come.
I will criticize a bad team, that is what this team is, poor D, average ( at best) pitching and a bombs away approach at the plate make for a long season and should not be encouraged.

You apparently forgot to ask the racist if it was OK to post your opinion, shame on you. Don't you know, he "told" you it was too early to have an opinion unless it matches his. You see, some people are incapable of seeing what is in front of them and he needs at least half a season to see what's in front of him, so of course, you do too.
That's the way his type think.

Excellent post. Just being active doesn't mean that it will translate into tangible results on mlb level. KW seems to be stockpiling 2nd tier talent. Compared to teams like the Rays or BoSox or even Toronto, it's difficult to see how this team competes with anyone outside their pathetic division for the next 5 years.

This is not supposed to be a rebuilding year, we have young talents, Getz, Fields, etc... Look at the Hawks this year with those young talents.

Uh, ok getting back to the "Topic," Getting a handle on this batting order is also a necessity for this team. Ozzie has gotta put Lilly in the minors to get his confidence in hitting. He has been valuable to play multiple positions, no doubt BUT Nix can do everything he does PLUS hit for average.

Why hasn't Kroeger been mentioned as a call up for the outfield spot? Scotty Pods? C'mon.....

I was all for trading Dye in the offseason as he was the ONLY valuable piece that had trade value. He remains that way but at least he's still playing ok. Konerko has gotten his swagger back and he'll stay as long as he wants. Forget about trading him. This will be Thome's last season so ride it out.

Keep Getz at leadoff. Move AJ back to the 2 hole. Keep JD at the 3 spot. Move Konerko to cleanup. Put CQ to the 5 spot and bump Thome to the 6 spot.

Let's go SOX!!!

What will Richard try to do next start that will assure him of going deeper into the game?
Thome has had great success against Cleveland, perhaps the mind has more to do with success then the cage?
The hitters are not swinging well and there seems to be no answer, what would Rudy do in Texas?
Alexi, Fields, Lillibridge, Thome, Pods, Quentin, all center fielders, it cannot be simply they are all in a slump there is something fundamentally wrong with the Sox hitting techniques. Nix is too new to have been effected ,yet.

If you have ever watched the sox take BP, you would see virtually every player pulling every single ball as hard as they can every time, if you watch closely you will see Ozzie going along with it and laughing and pointing when one is crushed. This is an organizational problem that started when they found out that attendance would increase with more home runs, and they were right. They moved the fences in and hire loads of guys who swing for the fences to fill the stands, not to win games, they have been fortunate to play in a very poor division and have gotten by with this approach so far. There are plenty of fans who like they way this team is right now, just read the posts around here.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Virgo

You aren't fooling anyone - it's easy for everyone else to see that inexperienced people are unaware of their obligations, Virgo. You're grumpy about starting a familiar process from the beginning again, but don't let that get in the way of getting on with it. Sour grapes have no place in your daily dealings. Although you may 'own' a project, it's ultimately in the hands of someone else. Deal with it and then move on.
