Little girl's foul toss makes dad a celebrity

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

Dad simply wanted a souvenir - not a national television appearance. Steve Monforto, the father who won over many hearts when his 3-year-old daughter tossed a foul ball he caught at a Phillies game back onto the field, traveled with his entire family from their home in Laurel Springs, N.J., to appear on the "Today" show Thursday.

An example of quality parenthood. I'm tired of seeing people beating toddlers in the walmart parking lot for no reason other then they're just being toddlers.

At least it shows that he has raised his kid right. She probably thought she needed to return the ball because it wasn't hers.

Now if only half the kids on my side of town had fathers who taught them to leave things that weren't theirs alone. Oh wait..most of them don't have fathers.

So when does the kid get her own reality show? I was home yesterday and saw this on four different "news" shows. Yes, it was cute and hilarious and heart warming, but hardly worth the attention devoted to it. The networks must think we're really desperate for some good news for some strange reason.

Angry Young American: maybe you wouldn't be so angry if you appreciated a little good news once in a while! Cheer up, would you rather see stories of toddlers getting beaten by their parents?

I'm sure you and all the other foul-smelling unemployed slackjawed knuckledragging illiterate Bible-beating obese snaggletoothed neo-Nazi meth-head pitbull-owning rednecks in your squalid trailer park watched it over and over yesterday while picking the scabs on your forearms and beating your seven illegitmate children.

I'm glad that we still have parents out there who do the right thing by their children. The child probably had been taught that if something didn't belong to her that she had to give it back. It's nice to hear a good story about children for awhile. Often, we here only the disturbing problems that the young are having. Im sorry angry young american was so disturbed by the news. How is he spending his day if he can watch this much television.

WOW! Cooper was right, you are an idiot! This video was absolutely precious. The look of love and caring on the face of this father is more of what we need in this country. It reminds us of what is really important. Now for you Angry Young American, if you are that angry, why don't you drop the American part and exit the country. I'd rather watch the video of this wonderful father and his daughter being replayed all day long on every channel, then I would to read anymore of your rantings. You need some help.

AYA just so you know, I shower daily, I am employed, I have a perfectly aligned jaw, my arms are quite proportionate to my body so my knuckles are free of scraps, I am well educated, read my bible not beat it, eh I could stand to lose 10 lbs but would hardly say that makes me obese, have perfectly straight teeth, non neo nazi, drug free, have a cocker spaniel, non red neck, own my own house in the burbs, and I'm scab free, and my 2 children have the same father, AND I thought the story was heart warming in a society where people like you feed off of the less fortunate, thrive on hate, offensive and crude behavior. I've seen many of your posts, and you truly are a sad person who just likes to cause controversy. Many more happy days at the ball park to that wonderful dad and his beautiful daughter.

Well, it took only 14 posts before someone had to interject politics. Take it to another topic pal. There are plenty others where people might care for the banter. We just wanted to read about a sweet story.

It was a heartwarming father-daughter moment, one which captured the essence of innocence and childhood, and a father's love -- all in just a few moments.

THAT is why America loves the video, and why I rewound it two or three times last night.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Virgo

You aren't fooling anyone - it's easy for everyone else to see that inexperienced people are unaware of their obligations, Virgo. You're grumpy about starting a familiar process from the beginning again, but don't let that get in the way of getting on with it. Sour grapes have no place in your daily dealings. Although you may 'own' a project, it's ultimately in the hands of someone else. Deal with it and then move on.
