8-6. I believe that was the score of Game Four of the 1979 World Series. It was the eighth inning, we were down 6-3, and they had Kent Tekulve on the mound. The next thing I knew, we were ahead, 8-6. memories.

Those uniforms are great. THey have class and character. The ugly ones they have now are as boring as they get. The boring bird on the hat has been there forever. I like the one that grins at your like a cartoon. I am excited though about Baltimore coming back to the road jerseys.

Maybe the Orioles ought to bring back the cartoon bird on their uniforms. They lost their magic when they changed to the "ornithologically correct" bird. The cartoon bird is the source of the mojo.(That's a hint Mr. Angelos in case you are too dense to figure it out for yourself).

Sadly the cartoon bird lost it's mojo in the late 80's, with the last straw being 1988 - maybe there are some that can recall that record setting 21 game losing streak to start the season and about 108 losses overall. The last O's 20 game winner, Mike Boddicker, was traded to the Red Sox at the trade deadline for Brady Anderson and Curt Schilling. Then, Eddie Murray was traded to the Dodgers in the following off season for not much. The "magic" was over! Some things had to change. One thing that changed was that the team went back to it's roots the next year with the second coming of the ornithologically correct (OC) bird and O's fans were treated to the "Why Not" season - among many things in the 1989 season I remember a rookie catcher named Mickey Tettleton who had 20 homers at the All-Star Break, a no-name left-handed pitcher named Jeff Ballard who gutted out 18 or 19 wins, and Mike Devereaux's walkoff home run down the left field line against the Angels. The OC bird looked pretty good then. So, check it out sports fans - Brooks Robinson, Dave McNally, Jim Palmer, Boog Powell, Luis Aparicio, Gus Triandos, Jim Gentile, Davey Johnson, Steve Barber, Milt Pappas, Wally Bunker, Paul Blair, Hank Bauer and many others wore hats featuring the OC bird. However, after 10 losing seasons the OC bird seems tired again. Perhaps consideration could be given to making a change back to the cartoon bird next year along with returning Baltimore to the road jerseys, adding Texiera at first base, followed by Matt Weiters behind the plate by the end of the season. Learn your O's history Brad -it's glorious!!! Mr. Angelos has committed some major screwups (I'm still not over Davey Johnson being run out of town) but he had nothing to do with this issue.

The east is easily the best division in American League Baseball. Biggest budgets, sell out crowds and the players even casual fans know. That is for some teams.
The Orioles sit in last pace in the AL East. With their record returning to .500 last night they keep the AL East pumped up with the best group of five teams in a division. In fact, except for the hot NL Central, the AL East is the only division without a team with an under .400 average.
The O's are part of a huge tradition. Baltimore, baseball and the east coast. The rivalries are so thick they fill up camden yards; home to the last place O's. And more than a decade since our last playoff appearance.
Fact is we're due. Time for the whole organization to step up to keep a tradition from falling into permanent history.

Ahh that 1979 world series, I can't say I was around for that one, and I was barely over a year old for 1983.

All I can say is that while the Orioles fell short of winning it all 1979, at least they made up for it 1983.

At any rate, it was nice to see the Orioles comeback home, and start off on the right foot. This was a gritty team win against an old world series foe. It was another night where you couldn't deny the Orioles 'never say die attitude.'

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Aquarius

This is another day when financial matters cause trouble, as Mars reverses in your seventh house. What started off as a minor niggle with a partner or an opponent yesterday could now escalate into a full-blown row, but at least this will give you the chance to get certain things out into the open. Legal issues from the past may become ugly. If you're pointing the finger of blame at someone, don't get so heated that you accuse them of everything under the sun.
