Errant fielding by Twins' Delmon Young could be sign of weary legs

Full story: TwinCities.com

No one has ever accused Delmon Young of being a Gold Glove outfielder, and, really, that's not why he's here.

Young has played a lot more this season it's true. However, Delmon is a below average defensive player. He can hit and has added to his typical good average more power. Morneau's absence tricles down the line up and keeps guys like Young and Cuddyer from having an opportunity for rest.

Here we have one of the, frankly, stupidest artcles ever. There's no doubt that Young is a hack artist in the field, but to say that his legs are tired? Please. The guy is twenty-four years old! How many chances a night does he really get in the field? He needs to learn how to play the outfield. The coaches need to get on him about his fielding and work on his skills. The guy has improved as hitter. If Young could finally start paying attention to his hitting coach, maybe the Twins can get him to pay attention to Jerry White or some other coach about his fielding.

Young was originally a right fielder. It was the Twins who moved him over because of Cuddyer. If anyone needs to rest his legs, it's Cuddyer, at thirty-one years old and playing every day. Cuddyer had another game of hitting into a rally ending double-play and stranding five. Cuddyer came up as a third baseman so should be able to handle first, but no one seems to care when he chokes with runners on base, and let's be honest--he chokes a lot with runnes on base. Cuddyer is good player and a great Twin team player, but Gardenhire should find a way to give him a rest. The guy might benefit and help the team even more than is currently doing.

I completely agree that Cuddyer needs some R&R, as does Young. Problem is, who plays first with Cuddyer out? I say throw Mauer out there, he can handle it. If not him probably Kubel. Also, is it just me or does it look like Young has gained some of that weight back that he lost in the offseason?

Giving Young a rest was a good decision, getting Hardy back in the lineup you would not lose anything, but where is Punto going to make any improvement at 3rd,SS or 2nd? His fielding would be on a parwith the others but his bat would be certainly not be of any help to the team. Save him in case of an injury. You better find a replacement for 1st base to spell Cuddy off because most people doubt Morneau will be back this season. At the same time find a replacemnt that can hit. Repko made a play today that Young wouldn't even had come close to. Valencia shows he is a first class fielder with a gun for an arm and a pretty good stick who seems to makes good contact.
