Please wait...
it appears that the Twins will enter 2011 without a major leauge shortstop yet once again...and why? because , of course, they are reverting to their old ways, that being too cheap to pay JJ Hardon the 6M it would take to keep him. Instead they will get 2 minor leaguers,...why would you trade an everyday starting shortstop for two minor league pitchers?....No other reason other than money, how sad.....how do you feel NOW Joe Mauer? Justin Morneau?

As of today, it would appear the Orioles will get the better of the deal Lets see Chaz, 2 dispensable players on the twins for a couple or arms with a little potential. As long as the twins get a bucket of balls for these 2 stiffs they are actually on the winning side. save your amateur GM skills for your fantasy baseball team and just report the facts.

It sounds as if we have a done deal. It's a bit hard to understand that the Twins would give up on Hardy after only one season of limited play, especially when the team doesn't seem to have anything better currently available. Hardy is still fairly young. He did had a couple twenty homer seasons, played on a all-star team, and won a Gold Glove. Perhaps the Twins didn't see a possibility for improvement and wanted to unload his salary. And, the team may be able to live with Plouffe or Casilla at shortstop. The most disappointing part is with what the Twins received in return. The Twins should be thinking about 2011. The goal should be to win the division, get through the play-offs, and play in the World Series. The Twins could have used Hardy to acquire players who could help the Major League Twins in 2011 instead of a couple uncertainties who may be far from major league ready. There's a limit to this looking ahead thing. Who knows what sort of dynamic will exist in 2012 and 2013? Planning ahead has its merit, but sometimes the Twins go a bit too far, pun intended.

Shooter, of course the Orioles are getting the better player in this deal. This move appears to be more about clearing salary for (hopefully) other moves. Hope Nishioka and Casilla bring it this year....

Appears? I am pretty sure the Orioles will get the better end of the deal. Only thing this does for the Twins is cuts about 6-7 million off of the payroll

So this is what will be left of the Santana trade, a sore-armed reliever and an A-ball Nuke LaLoosh?

The Twins are a much worse team after this trade. The two guys we are getting back are essentially minor league filler based on what they have accomplished so far. This is purely a salary dump, as to be. Though they spent too much time out of the lineup with injuries, Hudson and Hardy were a solid SS/2B combo and gave the Twins line up a lot of credibility. Casilla has always tempted and shows flashs but just when it seems like he has turned the corner, he stops playing like a big leaguer. Nishioka is a huge gamble; one really good year in Japan, above average AAA player who get hurt a lot and is just as likely to be in Rochester by June (along with Casilla). I just don't think the Twins are good enough to win with AAA players at SS/2B.

Wow are off base on this one.. You need to keep you amateur childlike opinions to yourself. Instead of being the ultimate homer like the old guy over on the Star Tribune staff, here's a writer(who once a major leaguer), writing a very good assessment of a trade. Grow up loser. A 27 year old that never AA pitcher and a 24 year old who is still in class A, and you think this is a good trade. Grow up.

The Twins should not need to cut the payroll. We gave them their new money making stadium. I forgot - they have a $184,000,000 singles hitter.

I'm okay with this - Hardy was SLOW and always hurt. Let Casilla and Nishioka center the infield and we'll see what happens. No way Hardy is/was worth $6mil. Now if only the Indians take Punto, we'll be getting somewhere!

This will allow Casilla a chance to play everyday instead of the half of the season that Hardy is injured for. The addition of minor league pitching allows the Twins to progress their minor league pitching prospects more easily and the Twins would would only have made this trade if they felt they were extremely close to landing Nishioka. I would much rather have this far superior mid-infield fielding combo than the slightly below average fielding and average hitting of Hardy/Hudson. Even if it means we have to live with Casilla sac bunting every at bat.

All this coming from the guy whose best playing time for the Twins was during the old timers game this past summer.

Starting the season with a guy who's never played MLB (Nishi), and another guy who should be a utility player (and who's benched quite a bit for lack of hustle), both of whom who will be backed up by Tolbert. We're comin', we're comin'.....

Neither pitcher is likely to help the major league team in 2011. On the upside, the Twins must believe they have Nishioka signed, that he is a top notch infielder, and that he can be the number two hitter.

The Twins had over 3,000,000 people through the gates this year. They didn't need to make this deal. Hopefully the guy from Japan comes, but he is slap hitting non-durable player. This is a typical Smith trade, in which we get zilch in return. Might as well kept Gomez instead of making that trade. No this wasn't a good trade. I doubt if the Twins will sign a viable pitcher with the money saved, and they need to get off their Elvis's and sign Thome.
